Job summary

Cobb EMC seeks a Superintendent Operations Skills Development to analyze and oversee the creation of training programs in the Operations Department, ensuring workers gain the knowledge for safe, efficient performance.

You will coordinate with the Georgia Lineman’s Rodeo Association, evaluate existing programs, identify gaps, and guide development of training for forestry, equipment operation, apprentice lineman, first class lineman and foreman.

Qualifications

  • High School or equivalent required and Northwest Lineman College LCP program completed.
  • Over ten years’ electric utility line work experience; at least 1 year as Skill Development Coordinator.
  • Specialized live-line, distribution line construction and applied electricity training.
  • Knowledge of GUFPA and NPDES rules; ITS certification and a valid Georgia CDL.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee and evaluate the Apprentice Lineman training program and related curricula.
  • Identify training gaps and coordinate development for all Operations areas.
  • Ensure documentation and status tracking for all trainees.
  • Coordinate training for forestry, equipment operation, apprentice lineman, and foremen.
  • Provide performance feedback and support for improvement plans.
  • Monitor safety and efficiency of field work and training outcomes.
  • Manage budgeting for training and review invoices and expenses.
  • Lead supervision and employment actions for subordinate staff.

Overview

Cobb EMC has an exciting opportunity for a Superintendent Operations Skills Development to analyze and oversee the identification and development of training programs in the Operations Department to ensure the knowledge required to perform assigned jobs safely and efficiently is obtained by each person. To assess all curriculum for up-to-date procedures and techniques, including the proper facilitation of NWLC Power Delivery Program. Work closely with career academies and lineman schools to develop and maintain relations for the purpose of education and awareness of Cobb EMC for future employment.

Schedule: 4- 10 hour shifts per week

Responsibilities

What you will be doing:

Operations Training Programs
  • Oversee and evaluate the Apprentice Lineman’s training program through direct involvement with the Georgia Lineman’s Rodeo Association and Cobb EMC’s Operation’s Training Program.
  • Evaluate existing training programs within Operations
  • Identify training gaps and needs for all areas of Operations.
  • Coordinate the development and implement training programs for each area of Operations including, forestry, equipment operator, apprentice lineman, first class lineman and foreman.
  • Ensure documentation, analysis, and status of all individuals within each training program is accurately completed.
  • Evaluate individual needs of employees by observations on jobsites.
  • Ensure the Northwest Georgia Lineman program is being completed on schedule.
  • Provide oversight and continuity of training at the training / evaluation yard to ensure consistency with skill development.
  • Coordinate and facilitate training in a timely manner for the installation and operation of new electrical equipment.
  • Coordinate all field evaluations for required operations employees
  • Observe hot line maintenance work, such as replacement of poles and crossarms and evaluate work practices for safety, efficiency and job knowledge
  • Evaluate crew visits for safety and efficiency of work procedures.
  • Conduct after hours’ crew inspections to evaluate operations field employees’ skills and training needs.
  • Provide performance feedback and input for performance improvement plans and employee evaluations.
Member Inquiries
  • Ensure that all member inquiries are promptly, courteously, and professionally addressed.
  • Ensure that all inquiries are handled to completion with fair and equitable treatment to all members.
  • Minimize inquiries forwarded to higher management for final decision, approval, or response.
Report and Budget
  • Review and analyze Monthly Training Schedule, Status of each person in training (Monthly, Quarterly & Annually), and SWOT analysis of each employee within all Training Programs.
  • Prepare and submit annual Operations training budget including all outside training opportunities.
  • Effectively monitor budget expenditures.
  • Verify invoices, meal tickets, and damage reports during out of town approved trips or storm trips.
Supervision
  • Handle all aspects of employment for subordinate staff, including hiring, promotion, training, and termination.
  • Appropriately document actions in employment issues.
  • Coach and direct learning through direct involvement and reinforcement.
  • Analyze and manage daily workload and schedules.
  • Monitor performance and conduct performance planning and review sessions.
  • Ensure fair and consistent treatment of departmental employees.
  • Actively support the efforts and intent of Equal Employment Opportunity.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

High School or equivalent.

Minimum ten years’ experience in electric utility line work, (1) one year experience as Skill Development Coordinator.

Specialized training in live-line work, distribution line construction, and applied electricity.

Knowledge of line feed system locations and interpretation of system maps.

Demonstrated expertise in the principles of basic electricity, safety rules and regulations, and corporate policies and procedures.

Knowledge of the SCADA system, distribution lines, substation locations, and load management systems and equipment.

Thorough knowledge of Georgia Utility Facility Protection Act (GUFPA) regulations.

Knowledge of Georgia’s National Pollutions Discharge Erosion Sediment (NPDES) Control.

Successful completion of the Northwest Lineman College LCP Program

SKILLS:

Demonstrated supervisory skills.

Excellent oral and written communication skills

Excellent planning and organizational skills.

Proficiency with personal computers. Basic Knowledge of MS Office Suite.

Demonstrated decision-making skills, excellent communication skills, and excellent planning and organizational skills.

Ability to effectively communicate technical information in a training environment to various skill set employees.

Possess valid Class A Commercial Georgia driver’s license and relevant endorsements

Possess an Integrated Transmission System (ITS) Operator's Certification.
