Job summary

Chesapeake Contracting Group is seeking an experienced Construction Superintendent for multi-family projects in the Baltimore area. You will lead field teams, coordinate subcontractors, and manage safety, quality, and schedule adherence across complex building programs.

The role requires strong leadership, deep understanding of trade coordination, and proven experience directing large-scale multi-family developments.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of multi-family construction experience in a management role.
• Lead superintendent on large multi-family projects preferred.
• Experience with wrap-style multi-family construction and precast parking structures preferred.

Responsibilities

• Establish and maintain the master project schedule; produce detailed 2-week look-ahead schedules.
• Conduct subcontractor precon meetings using Chesapeake templates.
• Coordinate subcontractors, vendors, and inspections to maintain schedule.
• Ensure compliance with contract scope, quality, and safety plans.
• Maintain daily jobsite logs and photos; track deliveries and installations.
• Lead weekly subcontractor preconstruction meetings and quarterly superintendent meetings.
• Oversee sequencing across buildings, units, and common areas; coordinate parking structures.

Job description

The Construction Superintendent provides leadership and coordination for all phases of multi-family construction projects, including coordinating subcontractors, material, and equipment, ensuring that specifications are being strictly followed, and work is proceeding safely and in accordance with the established schedule and budget. Superintendents shall be responsible for scheduling, inspections, quality control, and job site safety. The Superintendent often provides leadership to field employees such as Laborers, Field Engineers, and Assistant Superintendents.

Key Responsibilities

• In conjunction with the project team, establish and maintain the master project schedule. Prepare a detailed 2-week look-ahead schedule that reflects daily goals and labor activities to support the overall project schedule, including the sequencing and progression of multi-family construction activities.

• Conduct subcontractor precon meetings with each major subcontractor and CCG’s PM by utilizing the standard Chesapeake template for the agenda.

• Proactively schedule subcontractors, consultants, and vendors in the critical path to ensure timely completion.

• Ensure that subcontractors are fully executing and complying with the contracted scope of work for both schedule and quality control.

• Collaborate with CCG’s Safety Department and adhere to the company’s safety policy and required documentation. Create a jobsite-specific safety plan.

• Attend Chesapeake’s monthly Safety Meetings.

• Coordinate and monitor daily jobsite activities of the subcontractors and Owner’s vendors and assist in future planning, with a focus on maintaining proper sequencing across buildings, units, and common areas.

• Perform quality control duties and responsibilities regarding the work being performed in accordance with the project documents and submittals. Inspect and track material deliveries and installation details to meet project documents (including approved submittals). Issue notices of non-compliance to subcontractors regarding quality of work or scheduling.

• Oversee the sequencing and coordination of multi-family construction activities, including structural components, building envelope, MEP rough-ins, unit finishes, common areas, and turnover activities.

• Coordinate precast and/or structured parking construction activities when applicable, ensuring proper sequencing and coordination with surrounding building construction.

• Ensure that the job site is always kept in a clean and organized manner.

• Maintain a daily log and upload photos of activities on the jobsite.

• Identify conflicts in construction documents and address with the appropriate parties or communicate with senior project leadership for resolution.

• Schedule and run weekly subcontractor preconstruction meetings. Attend CCG Superintendent quarterly meetings.

• Coordinate required inspections with local jurisdictions as well as third-party inspections, including inspections and approvals necessary to maintain multi-family project sequencing and turnover schedules.

• Train and mentor Assistant Superintendents, Field Engineers, and Laborers.

• 7+ years of multi-family construction experience in a construction management or similar position with knowledge of all construction trades.

• Must have previous experience serving as the Lead Superintendent/primary field leader on a multi-family construction project.

• Prior experience leading large-scale multi-family projects of similar size and complexity strongly preferred.

• Experience with wrap-style multi-family construction and precast parking structures strongly preferred.

• Demonstrated ability to lead and coordinate multiple field team members, subcontractors, trades, and project phases simultaneously.

• Knowledge of local jurisdictional inspections and approval processes preferred.

• Familiarity with construction management and office productivity software, including MS Excel, MS Word, MS Project, Procore, Microsoft Teams, or other web-based or mobile document and project management solutions.

• Possess a valid Driver’s license in order to travel to assigned jobsites.

• Maintain OSHA 30, First Aid, & CPR Certification.
