Job summary

Clark Construction Company is seeking an experienced Superintendent to lead field operations on commercial projects throughout Detroit and Southeast Michigan. Based in Detroit, you will oversee day-to-day field activities, coordinate trades, and drive safety, quality, and schedule performance.

Ideal candidates bring 5+ years of superintendent experience, a background in historic renovation or adaptive reuse, and strong leadership and communication skills to support Clark's growth in the Detroit

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in CM, Engineering or related field preferred.
  • 5+ years of commercial superintendent experience or equivalent field leadership.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple phases in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience with historic renovation, restoration, adaptive reuse, or preservation is strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Lead day-to-day field operations from mobilization through project completion.
  • Coordinate subcontractors, vendors, and craft labor to meet plans and schedule.
  • Develop and maintain look-ahead schedules; align field with project goals.
  • Promote safety by enforcing policies; conduct safety meetings and jobsite audits.
  • Ensure quality control and regulatory compliance; address deficiencies promptly.
  • Maintain project documentation (daily reports, logs, change notices).
  • Manage material deliveries and equipment storage to minimize delays.
  • Represent Clark and build strong relationships with clients and stakeholders.

Clark Construction Company is seeking experienced Superintendents to lead field operations on commercial construction projects throughout Detroit and Southeast Michigan. The ideal candidate has a proven track record of leading commercial construction projects, coordinating multiple trades, maintaining safe and productive jobsites, and delivering high-quality results. Experience with historic renovation, restoration, preservation, or adaptive reuse projects is highly preferred.

Key Responsibilities
Field Leadership & Project Execution
  • Manage day-to-day field operations from mobilization through project completion.
  • Execute project plans while maintaining productivity, quality, safety, and schedule objectives.
  • Lead all onsite construction activities and coordinate sequencing to ensure efficient project execution.
Subcontractor & Trade Partner Coordination
  • Direct and coordinate subcontractors, vendors, suppliers, and craft labor to ensure work is completed according to plans, specifications, and schedule requirements.
  • Maintain strong relationships with trade partners while holding all parties accountable for performance and quality standards.
Planning & Scheduling
  • Establish daily and weekly field priorities.
  • Develop and maintain look-ahead schedules to proactively identify and resolve potential conflicts.
  • Collaborate closely with Project Managers to ensure alignment between field operations and overall project goals.
Safety Leadership
  • Champion Clark's commitment to safety by enforcing company policies and industry best practices.
  • Conduct regular safety meetings, inspections, and jobsite audits.
  • Stop work when necessary to address unsafe conditions and protect employees, trade partners, and visitors.
Quality Control & Compliance
  • Monitor construction activities to ensure compliance with project specifications, quality standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Identify deficiencies and implement corrective actions promptly.
  • Maintain a high standard of craftsmanship and project execution.
Documentation & Reporting
  • Maintain accurate and timely project documentation, including daily reports, inspection records, material tracking logs, change notices, and field reports.
  • Communicate project progress, challenges, and upcoming activities to project stakeholders.
Material & Equipment Management
  • Coordinate deliveries and verify materials meet project specifications.
  • Ensure equipment and materials are properly stored, protected, and maintained on-site.
  • Minimize delays through proactive planning and inventory management.
Client & Stakeholder Communication
  • Participate in owner meetings, subcontractor meetings, and project coordination sessions.
  • Build positive relationships with clients, consultants, architects, and project stakeholders.
  • Represent Clark professionally while supporting the continued growth of our Detroit and Southeast Michigan operations.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field preferred.
  • 5+ years of commercial construction superintendent experience or equivalent field leadership experience.
  • Proven ability to successfully manage multiple phases of construction projects in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong knowledge of commercial construction methods, scheduling, site logistics, safety practices, and quality control processes.
  • Experience coordinating multiple trades and maintaining project schedules.
  • Experience with historic renovation, restoration, adaptive reuse, or preservation construction is strongly preferred.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency with construction technology, project management software, and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and project schedules.
