Job summary

Gilbane Building seeks a Superintendent to independently supervise a scope of trade contractors on high‑value projects. The role is on the job site daily and advances career growth through Gilbane University and a strong project team.

The ideal candidate will have 4–10 years in superintendent roles on $15–$30M commercial/industrial projects, OSHA 30-hour and STS-C certifications, and a commitment to safety and excellence. NYC candidates are welcome.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Construction Management.
  • 4–10 years in superintendent on $15–$30M projects.
  • OSHA 30-hour certified.
  • STS-C certification.
  • First Aid/CPR/AED/Stop the Bleed training.
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience.

Responsibilities

  • Direct day-to-day coordination of trade partners to meet schedule.
  • Develop, document, and communicate the field work plan for changes.
  • Maintain contract documents and anticipate potential problems.
  • Lead contractor meetings and manage daily reports.
  • Create and update the project schedule and contingencies.
  • Uphold safety and enforce the project safety plan.
  • Coordinate materials and crew scheduling with Site Services.
  • Mentor junior Field Engineers on project needs.
  • Assist in writing scopes of work and buyout.
  • Support Time and Materials tracking.

Responsibilities
  • Direct the day‑to‑day coordination of Gilbane’s trade partners and their subcontractors to ensure high‑quality work that meets the approved project schedule
  • Develop, document, and communicate the work plan regarding changes made in the field
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of contract documents to proactively anticipate potential problems
  • Participate in constructability review and identify change impacts
  • Obtain or verify that subcontractors obtain all necessary permits for construction purposes
  • Act as primary safety representative in the field
  • Establish credibility among owners, trade contractors, unions, and other project partners by maintaining a fair and trustworthy environment
  • Lead contractor meetings on a regular basis
  • Maintain daily reports and documentation using software tools
  • Create, manage, and update the project schedule, creating and implementing contingency plans when necessary
  • Communicate schedule status, updates and changes to project team and trade contractors
  • Plan, coordinate, and manage jobsite logistics
  • Oversee project quality plan, complete inspections, and implement necessary changes
  • Communicate with Site Services/Next 150 to order materials and schedule crew
  • Coach and mentor less Field Engineers on project needs, construction knowledge, and business acumen
  • Understand scopes of work; assist in writing scopes of work and participate in buyout
  • Assist in Time and Materials (T&M) tracking
  • Lead stretch and flex, daily huddle, and pre‑task plan reviews
  • Support a positive and inclusive work environment
  • May be required to assist with tasks typically assigned to more junior positions
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Construction Management
  • 4–10 years of experience on $15–$30 million or larger commercial/industrial construction projects in a superintendent role
  • OSHA 30‑hour certified
  • STS‑C certification
  • First Aid, CPR, AED, and Stop the Bleed training
  • Or equivalent combination of education and experience
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Strong technical and communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Excellent problem‑solving skills and ability to adapt to changing needs
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Ability to collaborate on a daily basis with the project team
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office
  • Knowledge of construction software tools, including scheduling software
  • Construction‑document and drawing literate, with knowledge of all phases of construction
  • Experience and proficiency in multiple divisions of work, methods, materials, scheduling, and cost control
  • Strong knowledge and appreciation of construction safety processes and ability to enforce the project safety plan
  • Ability to create an environment where “safety first” is the culture and all tradespeople work with an incident‑ and injury‑free attitude
  • Understanding of general requirements and financial forecasting
Compensation

Salary to be determined based on factors such as geographic location, skills, education, and/or experience of the applicant, as well as internal equity and alignment with the team. For New York City, salaries range from $106,000 to $133,000 plus benefits and retirement program.
