Job summary

Ajax Building Company, part of the STO Building Group, is seeking a hands-on Superintendent to lead day-to-day field operations, manage craft and subcontractor teams, and deliver projects safely, on schedule, and to high standards.

The Superintendent reports to the General Superintendent and will oversee layout, sequencing, and field engineering while ensuring compliance with project procedures and safety policies.

Qualifications

5-7+ years of supervisory experience in construction.
Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering or related field.
Excellent communication, organizational and supervisory skills.
Thorough knowledge of all aspects of construction, safety requirements.
Ability to motivate employees and handle on-site situations.

Responsibilities

Hire, train, evaluate, and manage craft personnel.
Supervise craft employees, subcontractors, and field operations to meet design, budget, and schedule.
Plan, organize, and oversee daily on-site construction activities.
Interpret drawings and specifications; provide technical guidance and recommend construction methods.
Support project management in developing field procedures, standards, and documentation.
Interface with clients, inspectors, and trade partners to support project execution.
Enforce safety policies and document violations; coordinate with Safety leadership.
Monitor productivity, resource utilization, and project performance to meet requirements.
Review field-related transactions such as requisitions and field changes.
Perform or oversee layout and field engineering activities.

Ajax Building Company, part of the STO Building Group, is looking for a hands‑on construction leader who thrives in the field and takes pride in delivering exceptional projects. As Superintendent, you will lead day‑to‑day field operations, manage craft and subcontractor teams, and ensure projects are delivered safely, on schedule, and to the high standards our clients expect.

The Superintendent reports to and is directly accountable to the General Superintendent.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Hire, train, evaluate, and manage craft personnel in accordance with company policies and procedures.
Supervise and coordinate craft employees, subcontractors, and field operations to ensure work is executed per design, budget, and schedule.
Plan, organize, and oversee daily on-site construction activities, including manpower, materials, equipment, and sequencing.
Interpret drawings and specifications; provide technical guidance and recommend construction methods and equipment.
Support project management in developing and implementing project procedures, standards, and field documentation.
Interface with clients, inspectors, and trade partners to support successful project execution.
Enforce safety policies and procedures; promote a strong safety culture, document violations, and implement corrective actions in coordination with Safety leadership.
Monitor productivity, resource utilization, and overall project performance to meet contractual requirements.
Review and approve field‑related transactions such as purchase requisitions and field change requests as applicable.
Perform or oversee layout and field engineering activities.

QUALIFICATIONS

5-7+ years of relevant supervisory experience in the construction field.
Preferred:Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering or related field.
Excellent communication, organizational and supervisory skills
Thorough knowledge of all aspects of construction (technology, equipment, and methods).
Thorough knowledge of all safety requirements.
The ability to motivate employees and handle any situation that occurs on the project.

Physical Requirements

Must have the ability to perform the following tasks:

Coordinate the movements of eyes, hands, and fingers with full use of hands, arms and fingers.
See well (either naturally or with correction).
Climb and maintain balance on ladders and scaffolding.
Stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl or work at any height.
Lift and carry objects weighting up to 50 pounds and occasionally more.
