The NASA Postdoctoral Program (NPP) offers unique research opportunities to highly-talented scientists to engage in ongoing NASA research projects at a NASA Center, NASA Headquarters, or at a NASA-affiliated research institute. These one- to three-year fellowships are competitive and are designed to advance NASA’s missions in space science, Earth science, aeronautics, space operations, exploration systems, and astrobiology. We are developing experimental approaches to fundamental questions in cosmology, specifically state‑of-the‑art instrumentation to study the Cosmic Microwave Background. Rapid advances in detector technology played a decisive role in the experimental progression of this science, from the discovery of the CMB to the exquisite temperature and polarization maps available today. We are currently developing large‑format antenna‑coupled TES bolometer arrays for BICEP Array that operates at the South Pole, and developing new approaches to both time‑domain and radio frequency‑domain multiplexing. We are also developing Thermal Kinetic Inductance Detectors (TKIDs), that combine the sensitivity and design flexibility of TES bolometers with the ease of readout of KIDs. All of these technologies will have opportunities to deploy in the BICEP‑Array. Last, we are beginning to explore horn‑coupled designs that will allow JPL to assist with DOE‑driven efforts but also help design the next generation satellite CMB mission.
