Job summary

Waymo in Mountain View is seeking an internship-minded software engineer to help build backend infrastructure for the Waymo Driver. You will contribute to reliability and scale, enabling robust ride-hail operations and vehicle management through well-engineered services.

You will work on distributed backend systems, ML-driven optimization, and performance improvements, with opportunities to learn from leaders in autonomous driving and to contribute to real-world mobility solutions.

Qualifications

• Pursuing BS or MS in Computer Science or related technical field.
• Interest in infrastructure work: building internal tools, frameworks, and libraries.
• Excellent communication skills with both engineers and non-technical stakeholders.
• Excited about working on self-driving cars and large-scale systems.

Responsibilities

• Work on backend infrastructure stability and reliability.
• Feature work in applications such as Event Response or vehicle maintenance tracking.
• Design and develop backend and infrastructure supporting ride-hailing services.
• Design and build ML and optimization models for predicting routing, demand, and ETA.
