The Minnesota Department of Transportation - District 4 has vacancies for general laborer positions this summerin Morris, Breckenridge, Glenwood, Wheaton, Ortonville, and Benson. These positions will work full-time hours Monday through Thursday or Monday through Friday depending on the position, and are anticipated to run from approximately mid-May to mid-August. No evenings or weekends.

Positions will be available in the following areas:

Highway Maintenance

Assist in maintaining the roadway surfaces and shoulders; debris removal from roadways, right-of-ways and roadsides; assist with traffic control in high volume traffic settings; roadside mowing, trimming and landscape maintenance; assist with installation and repair of signs and guardrails.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
  • Knowledge of methods, tools, and equipment used in maintenance and construction work sufficient to carry out detailed work.
  • Ability to understand oral directions sufficient to carry out verbal assignments in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Ability to perform heavy manual labor work sufficient to complete assignments. Strength and agility necessary to bend, lift, dig, reach, and load heavy materials.
  • Endurance necessary to perform tasks under extreme environmental conditions, such as heat, cold, rain, snow, and wind.
  • These positions require a good driving record and a valid Class D Driver's License at time of application. Driver's license history will be reviewed.
Physical Requirements

The physical demands of this job will vary, but typically requires the ability to lift 100 pounds maximum with frequent moving and/or lifting or otherwise transfer of objects such as 50-pound bags. This job also may require walking or moving or standing or sitting to a significant degree on rough terrain or may involve sitting most of the time with pushing and pulling of arm and/or leg controls. This job will require strenuous physical labor including but not limited to digging, shoveling, hauling, crawling, bending, pushing, pulling and climbing.

*May require frequent exposure to weather elements year round (cold and hot) on a daily basis as well as working near traffic and heavy construction equipment
