Job summary

Summer Internship Program

Finance & Operations Support

Location: Washington, DC | New York, NY | Boulder, CO | Walnut Creek, CA
Duration: July – August, 8–12 weeks
Compensation: $25.00 – $45.00 per hour, based on experience and qualifications

Program Overview

The CGC Summer Internship Program is a structured, mission-driven experience designed to provide meaningful, hands‑on exposure to CGC’s finance, accounting, and operational work. Interns will support one of CGC’s divisions based on organizational priorities and business needs.

This internship provides an opportunity to contribute to real projects, gain exposure to cross-functional collaboration, and support work connected to CGC’s clean energy, infrastructure finance, and operations priorities.

The program is designed to deliver:

  • Clearly defined scope of work and responsibilities
  • Direct supervision and mentorship
  • Exposure to cross-functional collaboration
  • Professional development opportunities
  • A capstone presentation to senior leadership at the conclusion of the program

Exceptional interns may be considered for future employment opportunities aligned with organizational needs.

Key Responsibilities

Responsibilities will vary by division but may include:

  • Supporting active projects aligned with CGC’s clean energy and infrastructure investment initiatives
  • Conducting research, financial analysis, modeling, data analysis, or operational analysis
  • Assisting with preparation of reports, presentations, internal documentation, and process materials
  • Participating in cross-functional meetings and strategic discussions
  • Contributing to deliverables tied to defined learning objectives
  • Supporting finance, accounting, and operational projects as needed

For interns supporting the Finance and Operations Division , responsibilities may include:

  • Assisting with tying out financial statements and footnotes for the FY 2025 audit, including footing and cross-footing documents and confirming disclosed amounts match the trial balance
  • Auditing the contract database and reconciling information against vendor invoicing
  • Assisting with balance sheet reconciliations during the month-end close process
  • Reconciling timecards within payroll system reports and noting any differences
  • Auditing grant draw files against accounting records
  • Supporting the Controller with documenting processes and procedures related to managing investments from an internal control and accounting perspective
  • Reviewing travel and expense submissions to identify grant expense eligibility
  • Assisting with implementation and testing related to Accounts Payable and Procurement projects
  • Supporting other ad-hoc finance, accounting, and operations projects as assigned

Each intern will have a designated supervisor and clearly outlined deliverables.

Minimum Qualifications

Candidates must meet one of the following education levels:

Enrolled in a Bachelor’s Program – Junior or Senior Status

  • Currently enrolled in an accredited BA/BS program
  • Entering junior or senior year at the time of the internship

Bachelor’s Degree Graduate

  • Completed a BA/BS degree from an accredited institution

Enrolled in a Master’s Program

  • Currently enrolled in an accredited Master’s program
  • At least one semester, or equivalent, remaining at the time of application

Master’s Degree Graduate

  • Completed a Master’s degree from an accredited institution

All candidates should demonstrate:

  • Strong academic performance
  • Interest in clean energy, infrastructure finance, public‑private investment, mission‑driven finance, accounting, or operations
  • Strong analytical, communication, and organizational skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment
  • Attention to detail and ability to follow processes accurately
  • Comfort working with spreadsheets, reports, and internal documentation
Preferred Areas of Study
  • Finance, Accounting, Economics, or Business Administration
  • Mathematics, Statistics, Data Science, or Quantitative Finance
  • Computer Science, IT, Cybersecurity, or Financial Technology
Program Structure
