Job summary

Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (SOM) invites current students in architecture, structural and sustainable engineering, urban planning, graphic design or interior design to join our Summer Internship Program in Chicago. Spend the summer learning from design experts, building your skills, and contributing to world-class projects across disciplines.

The program runs from June 7, 2027 to August 13, 2027. Applicants must return to school in Fall 2027.

Qualifications

• Current student in accredited bachelor's or master's in structural engineering or related field.
• Exhibits initiative, problem solving, and a high attention to precision and accuracy at a task specific level.
• Able to follow instructions on timelines of deliverables, seeks guidance when needed, escalates appropriately if required.
• Effectively communicates internally through timely and appropriate written, oral and visual means.
• Limited experience in structural analysis, drafting and design development.
• Proficiency in Google Workspace, specifically Sheets.
• Basic knowledge of ETABS, Revit and Rhino/Grasshopper.
