Position Objectives

All camp counselors will supervise a group of 10-15 campers, ages 3-9, with all groups comprised of children of the same age. Counselors work with at least one partner, sharing responsibilities, with camper safety as the top priority. No camper is left unattended by staff.

Essential Job Functions

• Maintain daily attendance and dismissal records for all campers.
• Supervise and facilitate lunchtime activities.
• Assist with daily camp activities such as Arts & Crafts, Tennis, Swimming, Games, Dance, Playground, and Sports, participating as needed.
• Escort campers to all areas of the camp, including First Aid, bathrooms, and activity zones.
• Attend daily staff meetings and mandatory pre-season orientation sessions.
• Communicate daily with campers, co-workers, and parents.
• React calmly and effectively in emergency situations.

Incidental Duties

Requirements

Job Qualification Standards

The following qualifications and abilities are normally required for this position.

Education and Experience

• Prior counselor experience is preferred.
• Minimum age of 16 to meet CT Minor Law Guidelines.

Knowledge and Skills

• Unexpired First Aid and CPR certifications are a plus.

Language and Communication Skills

• Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
• Knowledge of customer service standards and procedures.
• Strong communication skills.

Physical and Sensory Demands

• Highly active environment requiring multitasking.
• Frequent standing and walking.
• Excellent physical fitness, visual acuity, and sense of urgency.
• Work performed indoors and outdoors during summer.
