Job summary

YMCA of South Palm Beach County is seeking a Seasonal Staff member at the Devos Blum Family YMCA in Boynton Beach, FL. This position is responsible for providing leadership and ensuring the safety of children during activities. Responsibilities include supervising children, planning activities, and maintaining a safe environment.

Job Details: Level – Entry | Location – Devos Blum Family YMCA – Boynton Beach, FL 33436 | Position Type – Seasonal | Salary – $14.00 hourly.

Position Summary

The position is responsible for providing leadership, ensuring the safety of all participants, and supervising children during all planned activities with the support of staff members.

Essential Functions
  • Provide a safe and healthy environment, both physically and mentally, to ensure the operation of a quality Children’s program.
  • Assist with feeding, changing, and transporting children with special needs.
  • Ensure children are aware of rules and daily scheduled routines.
  • Attend all staff meetings and required YMCA meetings to meet educational requirements and participate in in‑service training.
  • Assist in planning and implementing daily activities that fit children’s needs and interests.
  • Takes responsibility for the quality of supplies, equipment, and materials.
  • Report all suspicions of child abuse to proper supervisors.
  • Ensure proper procedures are followed for sign‑in/out of children on a daily basis.
  • Report all accidents to the Supervisor.
  • Assist in the daily maintenance of the childcare area, ensuring safety and cleanliness.
  • Share regular housekeeping chores such as cleaning, preparing for daily activities, and cleaning up after projects.
  • Ensure YMCA Character Traits are evident in all activities.
  • Establish a relationship with each child, knowing each child’s present level of understanding; consider all children’s needs and treat each child with respect and dignity.
  • Work toward positive parent/staff relations.
  • Participate in member retention, special events, and fundraising.
  • Complete all paperwork clearly and concisely.
  • Remain up to date on emergency procedures and family center policies.
  • Perform any other duties assigned by Management.
Qualifications
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.

  • Must desire and be able to work with children of all ages.
  • Must demonstrate responsibility and dependability.
  • Must follow through actions regarding communication with all parents.
  • May be required to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. in various forms.
  • May be required to sit, stand, or maintain physical activity for extended periods of time.
  • Must exhibit patience and understanding.
  • Must receive and follow detailed instructions, remain alert at all times, and keep safety in mind.
  • Must possess acceptable hearing and visual capabilities to monitor the environment and children’s well‑being.
  • Must be capable of working under pressure in a somewhat disruptive environment.
