Steve & Kate's Camps is seeking staff to help run a self-directed, creative camp in Encinitas. You will engage campers, lead teams, and support operations to ensure a safe, playful environment where kids learn through hands-on activities.

The role emphasizes leadership, collaboration, and the ability to adapt to a dynamic schedule in a busy camp setting.

Qualifications

• At least 18 years of age with a high school diploma or GED required.
• Bachelor's Degree preferred.
• 2 months of experience working in a camp or 1 year in an education or child care setting required.
• Consent to email or text communication from Steve & Kate's upon applying/accepting an offer.
• May be asked to chaperone campers on off-site field trips as needed.

Responsibilities

• Build relationships with parents and campers, help them overcome fears, discover passions, and find their groove at Steve & Kate's.
• Train, lead, and inspire a team; oversee day-to-day operations to keep things running smoothly and safely.
• Occasionally manage camp operations without the Director on site, including opening or closing the location.
• Serve as a training ground and pathway for future director roles.
• Facilitate activities; some staff may create or oversee activity spaces in which campers self-select activities.

Location: 1500 S El Camino Real, Encinitas, CA 92024

Camp Dates: 6/22/2026 (Mon) – 8/7/2026 (Fri); includes one weekend to set up, one weekend to breakdown, and an orientation date

Camp Hours: 8:00 am – 6:00 pm (actual shifts will vary)

Hourly Wage: The hourly rate for this position is $20.75 – $23.25 per hour. Pay range is offered in good faith; actual compensation depends on experience and other factors.

• Facilitate activities; some staff may create or oversee activity spaces in which campers self‑select activities (examples include sewing, stop‑motion animation, maker space, performing arts, arts and crafts, recreation, and more).

• Additional Job Requirements
• Past management or leadership experience preferred
• On‑site camp management is physically demanding (standing, outdoor work, and occasional exertion)
• Meets local camp director qualifications or has been a Steve & Kate's Camp employee

Physical Requirements

This position requires compliance with applicable immunizations, employment physical/screening, and health and safety training. You will work in person in a school‑aged camp setting to provide supervision, care, program delivery, and services in accordance with Steve & Kate's Camp and partner policies and applicable laws. The role requires working with children in a safe environment.

• Maintain and follow all safety and health rules of the location
• Organize and maintain clean, accessible activity spaces
• Assist in camp setup and breakdown during move‑in/out weekends
• Stand for long periods while supervising children
• Participate in athletic activities as appropriate
