Job summary

Applied Materials is seeking a summer intern for its Global Supply Chain team in Austin, TX. The 12-week program supports Supplier Account Managers, Procurement/Materials Managers, and Supply Chain Analytics, with hands-on experiences in RFQs, supplier management, and cost optimization.

The role requires pursuit of a Master's in Supply Chain Management or related field, strong academic standing, and excellent analytical and communication skills.

Qualifications

  • Pursuing a Master's degree in Supply Chain Management or related major.
  • Good academic standing with a preference for GPA 3.0+ on a 4.0 scale.
  • Strong problem-solving, analytical, and communication abilities.

Responsibilities

  • Complete supplier RFQs.
  • Collaborate with suppliers on obsolescence compliance.
  • Prepare supplier profiles for management review.
  • Perform part analytics to assign parts to the correct commodity family.
  • Interact with suppliers on cost reduction opportunities.
  • Support Supplier Account Managers in meetings, QBRs, and capacity reviews.
  • Create, reschedule, and cancel POs per MRP.
  • Call suppliers to confirm material status and expedite deliveries.
  • Resolve Accounts Payable discrepancies related to PO invoices/receipts.
  • Find alternate or emergency sources for material.
  • Provide material updates to factory stakeholders and leadership.

Interns will work in the Global Supply Chain group for 12 weeks supporting Supplier Account Managers, Procurement/Materials Managers , and Supply Chain Analytics. Supplier Account Managers are responsible for supplier selection, supplier management, commercial negotiations, and creating and executing commodity strategies. Procurement and Materials Managers are responsible for ensuring timely delivery of materials to our factories while meeting cost and quality targets.ResponsibilitiesSummer intern responsibilities may include:Completing supplier request for quotations (RFQs)Working with suppliers on obsolescence compliance and trainingPreparing supplier profiles for presenting to managementPerforming part analytics to ensure parts are assigned to the proper commodity familyInteracting with Suppliers on cost reduction opportunitiesSupporting Supplier Account Managers in various tasks including meeting & presentation preparation, supplier management, quarterly business reviews, supplier capacity reviewsPerform Buyer functions, including: Creating, re-scheduling, and cancelling POs per MRPCall suppliers to get material status and expedite materialResolve Accounts Payable issues related to PO invoice and receipt discrepanciesFind alternate/emergency sources for materialProvide material delivery updates directly to factory stakeholders and leadershipMitigate excess POs and inventory through supplier negotiationsPerform MRP and Spend Analytics looking for optimization of business practiceRequirementsStudent must be pursuing a Master's degree in Supply Chain Management or a related majorStudent must be in good academic standing at their university, with a preferred GPA of 3.0 or above on a 4.0 scaleAbility to problem-solve creatively and analyticallyCommitment to quality and customer satisfactionExcellent listening, writing, quantitative, qualitative and oral communication skillsData analytics skills ( E.g. advanced excel, working with multiple data sets)Desire for continuous learning and improvementFlexible and adaptable mindset who thrives in a results-driven cultureCandidates must have valid work authorization for the duration of the internship period to be considered for this role.
