Duties and Responsibilities
- Target candidate may be required to operate and maintain a vacuum excavation truck and related equipment safely and efficiently.
- Possess the ability to designate/locate a variety of underground utilities, create legible field sketches, perform simple mathematics, field measurements, document daily activities and perform records research.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Experience
- Experience similar to a utility locator or utility designator, with a minimum of 2–4 years using many types of pipe and cable locating devices.
- Experience with Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) is preferred.
- Understanding of basic traffic control and hazards associated with working in and around traffic; follow safety precautions.
- Experience with Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR), surveying, CADD, and vacuum excavation truck is a plus.
Skills
- Ability to follow instructions, be trained and mentored, and maintain a positive can‑do attitude.
- Leadership and mentoring skills are required.
- Basic knowledge of underground utilities and ability to identify surface features associated with various utilities.
- Capacity to perform some equipment maintenance tasks.
- Mechanical aptitude is desired.
Degrees / Licenses
- High School Diploma is required.
- A valid current driver’s license and the ability to obtain a Department of Transportation (DOT) medical card for Commercial Motor Vehicle operation are required.
- Current Commercial Driver’s License is a plus.
- NULCA or other certification is a plus.
Education and/or Skills Required
- Minimum of 2 years of relevant work experience.
- Highschool Diploma/GED.
Certificates, Licenses, and/or Registrations Required
- Valid Driver’s License.
- Ability to maintain required certifications.
