Job summary

Colliers Engineering & Design is seeking a field-oriented SUE professional in Wilmington, NC to designate utilities using EM and geophysical methods, operate vacuum excavation equipment, and coordinate survey work with the team.

The role requires 2+ years in electromagnetic/geophysical locating, willingness to travel, and ability to work outdoors in varied weather. Strong safety focus and driving record are essential.

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years experience with electromagnetic and geophysical locating technologies.
• Vacuum excavation experience preferred.
• Ability to quickly grasp new technologies.
• Basic computer skills and ability to learn new software.
• Strong reading comprehension and communication skills.
• Enjoy outdoor work in various weather conditions.
• Willing to travel out of town, sometimes overtime.
• Able to walk long distances and lift up to 80 lbs.
• Valid driving skills and a clean driving record.
• Prioritizes safety for self and others.

Responsibilities

Overview

Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) is a branch of engineering that deals with mitigating risks associated with new infrastructure design and construction. We work closely with engineers and utility owners to help identify utility conflicts using an array of technologies, including electromagnetic line locators, ground penetrating radar, GPS, conventional survey and vacuum excavation. Our work requires a high level of precision and technical ability.

Responsibilities

• Workwith a team of talented individuals to help tackle a wide variety of projects.


• Read and interpret utility records, as-built and survey drawings and highway design plans.


• Designate existing utilities using electromagnetic and geophysical technologies.


• Operate and drive a vacuum excavation truck and perform test holes to expose utilities.


• Utilize appropriate maintenance of traffic.


• Call “One-Call” tickets.


• Coordinate survey work in relation with SUE.


• Supervise activities of field crew.


• Train junior crew members.


• Represent Colliers Engineering & Design in the field and communicate/coordinate with utility companies.

Qualifications

• Should have basic computer skills and be able to learn and understand new software.

• Need to be able to occasionally travel out of town and work overtime.


• Should be able to walk long distances of several miles daily.


• Will sometimes be lifting heavy equipment up to 80 lbs.


• Need to have good driving skills and a clean driving record.


• Must prioritize the safety of yourself and others.


• May need to work nights/weekends.


• Ability to read, write and understand English for purposes of comprehending written job-related communications and verbal instructions and interactions.
