Job summary

Colliers Engineering & Design is seeking a SUE Technician II to join our SUE Services team in Hamilton, Ohio. You will work with a collaborative group to identify, map, and verify underground utilities using EM and geophysical methods, supporting safer and more efficient infrastructure delivery.

The role involves operating a vacuum excavation truck, coordinating survey work, and mentoring junior crew members while traveling as needed.

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years using electromagnetic and geophysical designation technologies.
• Experience with vacuum excavation preferred.
• Grasp new technologies quickly and adapt to new software.
• Good communication and collaboration skills.
• Able to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
• Occasional travel and overtime may be required.
• Able to walk several miles daily and lift up to 80 lbs.
• Valid driving record and safe driving skills.
• Prioritize safety in all tasks and follow instructions.
• English reading/writing for job-related communications.

Responsibilities

Colliers Engineering & Design is seeking a SUE Technician II to join our growing SUE Services team in Hamilton, Ohio!

As a SUE Technician III, you'll play a critical role in helping clients accurately identify, verify, and map underground utilities, reducing project risks and preventing costly utility conflicts during design and construction.

Our Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) team leverages cutting-edge technology, industry-leading practices, and data from multiple sources to deliver precise, reliable utility information. Working alongside experienced professionals, you'll contribute to a wide range of infrastructure projects while helping ensure safer, more efficient project delivery for our clients.

Responsibilities

• Work with a team of talented individuals to help tackle a wide variety of projects.
• Read and interpret utility records, as-built and survey drawings and highway design plans.
• Designate existing utilities using electromagnetic and geophysical technologies.
• Operate and drive a vacuum excavation truck and perform test holes to expose utilities.
• Utilize appropriate maintenance of traffic.
• Call “One-Call” tickets.
• Coordinate survey work in relation with SUE.
• Supervise activities of field crew.
• Train junior crew members.
• Represent Colliers Engineering & Design in the field and communicate/coordinate with utility companies.

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years experience in using electromagnetic and geophysical designating technologies.
• Experience with vacuum excavation preferred.
• Must be able to quickly grasp new technologies.
• Should have basic computer skills and be able to learn and understand new software.
• Proficient communication & internal collaboration skills.
• Should enjoy working outdoors in a variety of weather conditions.
• Need to be able to occasionally travel out of town and work overtime.
• Should be able to walk long distances of several miles daily.
• Will sometimes be lifting heavy equipment up to 80 lbs.
• Need to have good driving skills and a clean driving record.
• Must prioritize the safety of yourself and others.
• May need to work nights/weekends.
• Ability to read, write and understand English for purposes of comprehending written job-related communications and verbal instructions and interactions.

Requires a pre-employment drug screen and will require ongoing participation in the employer's random drug and alcohol testing program.
