Job summary

SGM is seeking a full-time Subsurface Utility Engineering Team Lead in Glenwood Springs, Colorado. The role focuses on leading and growing the SUE team, maintaining quality, and serving as the Engineer-of-Record where stamping is required.

The ideal candidate has a Colorado PE license, 8+ years in engineering (including SUE), and proven leadership and client-service capabilities. Competitive salary with strong benefits and travel within-state expected.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering and a Colorado PE license (or ability to transfer).
• Minimum 8 years of engineering experience with at least 1 year in SUE.
• Project management experience on civil or utility projects.

• Desire to live, work, and play in western Colorado.

Responsibilities

• Lead, develop, and grow the SUE team, including oversight of professional development and workload management.
• Provide day-to-day guidance, coaching, and oversight as an on-the-ground leader.
• Serve as SME for geophysical tools and methods for SUE work and ensure Colorado SUE compliance.
• Provide input during concept development and project reviews.
• Oversee QA/QC on utility projects led by other PMs.
• Act as Engineer-of-Record (PE) for most SUE projects and stamping QA/QC.
• Lead business development efforts and proposals to expand SGM’s market footprint.
• Ensure clients receive timely, high-quality service.
• Collaborate with the Business Sector Leader to set and track financial goals.

Salary Range: $105,400.00 To $131,300.00 Annually

SGM is seeking a full-time Subsurface Utility Engineering Team Lead in Glenwood Springs, Colorado. This is a unique opportunity to lead SGM’s SUE practice, grow and develop a team, and establish yourself as a market-leading expert in the SUE field.

JOB DUTIES:

• Lead, develop, and grow the SUE team, including oversight and responsibility for the team’s professional development, workload management, and overall employee experience.
• Be an effective “on-the-ground” leader, providing day-to-day guidance, coaching, and oversight.
• Act as subject-matter-expert for geophysical tools and methods for SUE work, ensuring projects meet Colorado SUE law.
• Offer significant technical and creative input during concept development and review phases of projects.
• Provide oversight and QA/QC on Utility projects being led by other project managers
• Be the Engineer-of-Record (PE) for most SUE projects and provide QA/QC on all SUE projects where a stamp is applied.
• Expand SGM’s footprint in the market by leading the production of business development plans and proposals.
• Be a proactive client service manager, ensuring clients receive timely, high-quality service.
• Team with Business Sector Leader to establish, communicate, and track financial goals.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, or a related field, along with a current Colorado PE license, or ability to transfer PE license from another state.
• A minimum of 8 years of engineering experience with at least 1 year of SUE-specific experience.
• Prior project management experience with civil engineering or utility projects.
• Strong communication skills and ability to coordinate and communicate with all internal and external project stakeholders.
• Flexibility for some in-state travel as needed.
• Strong desire to live, work, and play in western Colorado.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Prior experience at a SUE firm in Colorado.
• Prior employee & technical staff management experience
• Proficiency with Civil 3D.
• PLS or Field Survey experience and Data Management (GIS/Trimble).
• Master’s degree in civil engineering or a related field.
• Demonstrated involvement in professional organizations and community outreach.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
• Must be able to travel to various project sites, including mountain locations.
