Job Description

Under the supervision of a Licensed Surveyor, the S.U.E. Operator will lead all investigation activities. The operator is responsible for locating underground utilities in accordance with the appropriate ASCE standards for each designated quality level within the defined scope of work. The role focuses on accuracy and integrity, providing DDG clients with reliable and precise information regarding the underground utility network.

The operator is expected to inspect all utilities within and surrounding the project area, employing a range of geophysical techniques to collect comprehensive data. They must efficiently read and interpret utility plans, conduct thorough record research, and compare anticipated utility layouts with actual field conditions.

By integrating technical expertise with detailed analysis, the S.U.E. Operator ensures that utility mapping is thorough and dependable. The ideal candidate is enthusiastic about working in a team environment, loves the outdoors, and is eager to learn and grow in their career.

Activities + Responsibilities
  • Promote DDG's core values, both internally and externally, and comply with the DDG Company Manual
  • Accurately trace underground utilities using the most effective method tailored to each utility type
  • Coordinate with clients to ensure that all questions are clearly defined and understood
  • Follow instructions and work orders from S.U.E. / Crew Manager
  • Maintain a positive attitude and professional demeanor with all staff and clients
  • Communicate daily with your S.U.E. / Crew Manager to confirm whether you are on track to complete your field schedule, indicating any schedule deviations
Required Skills and Abilities
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills
  • 2+ years of experience in S.U.E. field operations
  • Strong understanding of the S.U.E. research process, data collection, and analysis
  • Excellent communication, writing, and presentation skills
Qualifications
  • High School diploma or GED with S.U.E. field experience and knowledge to perform required tasks
  • Ability to read records research documentation
  • Knowledgeable in the use of geophysical technology (e.g., RD8200)
  • Valid Driver’s License
Physical Requirements
  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer
  • Must be able to lift up to 15–50 pounds at times
  • Must be able to travel to various project sites
  • Must be able to access and navigate job sites and construction areas
