To expand Odyssey House justice-services SUD programming and make effective use of credentialed clinical capacity, the SUDC is responsible for reliable delivery of prison, jail, and halfway-house services; timely documentation; justice-partner coordination; approved revenue-support activities; and SUD-focused intake/BPS support when not scheduled for groups.

  • Facilitate assigned SUD treatment, psychoeducational, relapse-prevention, recovery-skills, and other authorized groups in prison settings.
  • Facilitate assigned jail-based SUD services or groups when permitted by facility, contract, payer, and credentialing requirements.
  • Facilitate assigned halfway-house SUD groups and maintain continuity with Odyssey House and justice-system expectations.
  • Deliver services to fidelity based on approved curriculum, clinical direction, facility requirements, and Odyssey House standards.
  • Maintain a reliable group schedule and promptly communicate barriers, facility changes, cancellations, or access issues to the Clinical Director.
Documentation & Revenue Support
  • Complete timely, accurate group notes, attendance documentation, progress documentation, and required communications for all services delivered.
  • Document services in a manner that supports approved billing or contract requirements when reimbursement pathways have been validated.
  • Support operational evaluation of prison, jail, and halfway-house services for reimbursement under applicable contracts, payer requirements, credentialing standards, and service codes.
  • Accurately track approved billable or contract-eligible services and provide required information for revenue-cycle or contract reporting.
  • Maintain compliance with Utah SUDC scope, Odyssey House policy, correctional-facility requirements, confidentiality standards, and documentation requirements.
Admissions & BPS Clinical Support
  • When not scheduled for justice-services programming, assist with SUD-focused portions of intake and BPS work within credentialed and agency-defined scope.
  • Gather detailed substance-use history, prior SUD treatment, relapse/return-to-use history, overdose and IV/needle-risk history, MAT/MOUD history, recovery supports, and justice/re-entry information.
  • Support intake events and high-volume admission periods when group schedules permit.
  • Coordinate with BHCDS and LMHT staff so SUD-specific factual information is complete and available for licensed clinical review.
  • Do not allow routine intake work to displace the primary prison, jail, and halfway-house programming assignment.
Expectations
  • Prison, jail, and halfway-house groups are delivered as scheduled with reliable coverage.
  • Documentation is completed accurately and within required timelines.
  • Approved billable or contract-eligible services are captured accurately after reimbursement requirements are validated.
  • Clients receive consistent, evidence-informed, recovery-oriented SUD programming within credentialed scope.
  • Justice-system relationships are maintained professionally and communication with partners is timely.
  • Available non-group time is used productively for SUD-focused intake/BPS support and other assigned clinical-support activities.
Responsibilities
  • Reports to and works closely with the Clinical Director to maintain clinical quality, group fidelity, scope compliance, and justice-services priorities.
  • Coordinates with prison, jail, halfway-house, probation/parole, re-entry, and other justice-system partners as needed for service delivery and continuity.
  • Collaborates with Admissions, BHCDS staff, LMHTs, and program teams when supporting intake/BPS work.
  • Participates in clinical supervision, training, quality-improvement activities, program development, and other duties assigned within credentialed scope.
  • Maintains HIPAA, 42 CFR Part 2, professional-boundary, documentation, and information-security standards.
Qualifications
  • Active Utah Substance Use Disorder Counselor (SUDC) credential in good standing, or higher Utah behavioral health credential acceptable for assigned services.
  • At least two years of SUD treatment experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience facilitating SUD treatment, psychoeducational, relapse-prevention, recovery-skills, or comparable behavioral health groups.
  • Correctional, justice-involved, re-entry, probation/parole, drug court, jail, prison, or halfway-house experience strongly preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Psychology, Behavioral Science, Human Services, Criminal Justice, or a related field preferred but not required when credential and experience requirements are met.
  • Experience with BestNotes or another behavioral health EHR preferred.
  • Must be able to meet prison, jail, and other facility background, security, orientation, credentialing, and access requirements.
Requirements & Skills
  • Strong knowledge of substance-use disorders, relapse prevention, recovery supports, MAT/MOUD, overdose prevention, treatment engagement, and re-entry barriers.
  • Strong group-facilitation, motivational interviewing, documentation, interpersonal, and professional communication skills.
  • Ability to engage and maintain appropriate boundaries with justice-involved clients in secure or highly structured environments.
  • Ability to organize and complete timely service documentation that meets Odyssey House, facility, contract, payer, and credentialing standards.
