Job summary

HealthRIGHT 360 operates residential and outpatient substance use treatment and mental health services. The SUD Supervisor I leads a team to ensure high-quality client care, staff scheduling, and coordination with outside agencies.

The role emphasizes trauma-informed practices, risk management, and compliance with policies while supporting clients re-entering the community after criminal justice involvement.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required; bachelor’s degree preferred.
• Registration as a Substance Use Disorder Counselor from a CA agency (CCAPP/CAADE/CADTP) required or certification.
• Experience supervising direct service providers; non-profit background preferred.
• Trauma-informed, ethical delivery of services including crisis intervention.

Responsibilities

Job Summary

HealthRIGHT 360, a nonprofit organization and a family of programs, is committed to providing accessible and comprehensive healthcare services to vulnerable populations. Our mission is to tackle systemic barriers to healthcare and promote health equity for all. We offer a wide range of services, including mental health care, residential and outpatient substance use treatment, and primary health services.

Additionally, we provide transitional support for individuals re-entering the community after involvement in the criminal justice system. By integrating physical and behavioral health, we empower individuals to overcome challenges by addressing social determinants of health, fostering resilience, and facilitating recovery.

North County Serenity House (NCSH), a residential program of HealthRIGHT 360, was founded in 1966 to provide substance use disorder services in the community. NCSH provides a gender-responsive and trauma-informed environment, using evidence-based and best practices that recognize and account for the role that trauma frequently plays in substance use and criminal histories of women. For clients with co-occurring mental illness, we provide integrated substance use and mental health services which treat both conditions as primary.

Our residential facility serves up to 120 women (with capacity for up to 20 children under 5 years of age) seeking recovery from substance use disorders.

The SUD Supervisor I leads and supervises a team of professionals to ensure the delivery of quality client care. This role contributes to maintaining a positive and supportive environment for our clients and ensures that staff meet the organization’s goals in alignment with HealthRIGHT 360’s philosophy, mission, values, policies, and objectives.

The SUD Supervisor I is responsible for overseeing client care, which includes staff scheduling, managing relationships with outside agencies, and performing other assigned tasks. Additionally, the role supports daily activities essential to incorporating the organization’s mission and values into our service delivery.

Key Responsibilities

People Supervision

Navigators, and/or assigned.

• Assist management with interviews, selection, hires, and terminations.
• Ensure that all direct reports are in compliance with the organization’s policies, procedures, position expectations and performance goals, and contractual requirements.
• Provide ongoing feedback, coaching, support, and conduct formal performance evaluations in a timely manner.
• Deliver and arrange training and resources to ensure that direct reports are successful in their roles.
• Ensure proper coverage of the program by managing work schedules and approving time away from work.
• Deliver all communications necessary to all team members to remain current with HealthRIGHT 360’s policies and procedures and to inform them of quality-of-care concerns.
• Maintain open communication with the manager concerning employee matters/needs, client assignment, workload distribution across the team, and seek consultation when needed.
• Address interpersonal or team conflicts promptly and diplomatically to maintain a positive work environment.
• Lead weekly staff meetings to discuss program updates, issues, policies, and procedures.

Treatment Oversight

• Ensure that overnight staff remain alert and awake at the entire overnight shift.
• Assign clients to staff’s caseload.
• Ensure that all treatment service plans and activities are executed in keeping with the organization’s values, mission, vision, and strategy.
• Facilitate and assist with client case conferences as applicable.
• Ensure that staff provide strengths-based, trauma-informed, and culturally competent services in an ethical and legal manner.
• Ensure safety and security of the program and mediate client grievances.
• Respond to emergencies, outstanding crisis, or events as needed, including during holidays, weekends, and afterhours.
• Ensure that all direct reports submit documentation in accordance with program requirements and in compliance with all regulatory requirements and agency’s policies and procedures. This includes timeliness of documentation with progress notes being completed no later than the following business day, assessments, treatment plans, and discharges occurring on time.
• Perform regular audits to ensure contract compliance.

Direct Service

• Provide services within the scope of practice, which may include crisis intervention, assessments, individual and group counseling, case conferences, educational groups, and treatment plans as assigned.
• Assume ownership for any crisis as it relates to service delivery and see it through to completion.
• Maintain documentation of services provided in accordance with HealthRIGHT 360’s policies and procedures to satisfy internal and external evaluating requirements.
• Monitor and ensure the safety and well-being of all clients in the facility during overnight hours.
• Safely and efficiently transport clients to designated locations during emergency situations and as needed.

Administration And Other Duties

• Work different shifts to maintain knowledge of all aspects of the program.
• Develop and maintain training-related workflows and procedures.
• Actively participate in assigned supervision, agency, and team meetings.
• Participate in training opportunities and complete assigned training in a timely manner.
• Maintain compliance with credential requirements.
• And perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education, Certification, Licensure, Experience

• High school diploma or equivalent required. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
• Option I:
• Registration as a Substance Use Disorder Counselor from an accredited California agency (CCAPP, CAADE, CADTP).
• At least 1 year’s experience providing supervision to direct service providers, preferably in a non-profit organization or comparable agencies with similar client populations.
• Option II:
• Certification as a Substance Use Disorder Counselor from an accredited California agency (CCAPP, CAADE, CADTP).
• Experience with efficient and effective treatment and management of clients with co-occurring disorders.
• Experience providing trauma-informed services.
• Valid First Aid and CPR certification or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire.
• Valid California Driver’s License and access to registered and insured transportation
• Must complete background check and livescan clearance.
