Job summary

Geological Survey in Reston, VA is seeking a Hydrologist to lead or participate in subsurface hydrologic studies within the Geology, Energy & Minerals Science Center.

You will design, develop, and execute numerical simulations of single- and multiphase flow in geologic formations, translate data into models, and communicate results at conferences.

This GS-12/13 role offers telework eligibility and may require travel up to 1–2 nights per month; applications close 2026-11-06.

Responsibilities

• Conduct fundamental and applied research in subsurface hydrology and related geoscience disciplines.
• Design, develop, and execute numerical simulations of single- and multiphase fluid flow in geologic formations.
• Translate data into conceptual and computational models and present results to scientific audiences.
• Collaborate within multidisciplinary teams and prepare comprehensive reports with figures and charts.
• Present findings at national and international conferences; apply AI/ML to enhance modeling workflows. Travel up to 1–2 nights per month.
