SUBSTITUTE - TRANSPORTATION ASSISTANT (BUS AIDE)

Job Title: Substitute Transportation Assistant (BusAide) Reports to: Transportation Supervisor FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED;
  • Have received a qualifying score on the Education Testing Service (ETS) paraeducator assessment; Hold an associate degree or higher from an accredited college or university; Have earned 72 quarter credits or 48 semester credits at the 100 level or higher at an accredited college or university
  • Must be able to work patiently with special needs students;
  • Ability to walk, stand, sit, stoop, bend, reach, kneel, crawl and grasp as required to successfully perform all duties;
  • Must be able to pass physical, including drug test;
  • Fingerprint background check is required;
  • Must pass a criminal background check that meets required state, federal, and Clarkston School District standards;
  • Must have, or be able to obtain, current valid CPR/First aid certificate
  • Safe Schools Training is REQUIRED, and needs to be completed BEFORE start date

Job Description:

  • Assist bus driver in providing safe transportation for students
  • Review daily schedule and make adjustments
  • Operate lift for wheelchairs
  • Escort students to designated seating
  • Help students secure seatbelts
  • Secure tie-downs for wheelchairs
  • Escort students to classroom and/or wait for classroom assistant
  • Ensure students safely enter and exit bus
  • Communicate with classroom assistant and/or teacher/parents
  • Maintain bus cleanliness and safety by keeping floors dry and clear of objects
  • Maintain appropriate student behavior while on bus
  • Enforce the use of seatbelts
  • Report the health issues of each student
  • Assist with personal hygiene
  • Other duties as assigned by Transportation Supervisor
