Job summary

Levelland Independent School District seeks an instructional aide to provide students with learning activities, instruction, and supervision as directed by teachers or administrators.

You will assist with reading, language arts, mathematics, and computer instruction, work with students individually or in groups, and help prepare materials. Duties include supervision, field trips, record-keeping, and supporting inclusive practices for students with special needs.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required; some college hours preferred.
  • Ability to implement and reinforce instructional activities.
  • Ability to assist students with special needs and IEP objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Assist and guide students to reinforce reading, language arts, mathematics, computer instruction, and other skills.
  • Work with students individually and in small groups to reinforce basic learning.
  • Assist professional staff in administration and correction of exercises, tests and assessments.
  • Assist in classroom preparations and strategies for reinforcing instructional materials and skills.
  • Record-keeping procedures to document student learning and performance.
  • Help maintain classroom behavioral management and safety.
  • Supervise non-instructional activities (lunch, bus duty, playground, hallways, study hall).
  • Accompany students on field trips for supervision.
  • Prepare and use educational materials as needed.
  • Assist with parent contact to foster involvement.
  • Assist students with special needs to maximize inclusion and achievement.
  • Participate in IEP processes as needed.
  • Assist students with activities of daily living as required.
  • Follow safety rules and regulations for all students.

Job description

Provide students with appropriate learning activities, instruction, and supervision by implementing lesson plans as directed by the absent teacher, principal, or other responsible staff.

Responsibilities
  • Assist and guide students to reinforce reading, language arts, mathematics, computer instruction, and other skills.
  • Work with students individually and in small groups to reinforce basic learning and implement assigned programs.
  • Assist professional staff in the administration and correction of classroom exercises, tests and assessments.
  • Assist in classroom preparations and strategies for reinforcing instructional materials and skills according to individual student needs.
  • Assist with record‑keeping procedures to document student learning and performance.
  • Assist with classroom behavioral management to minimize disruptions, ensure a safe and orderly classroom, and keep students on task.
  • Assist students in non‑instructional areas such as supervising lunch programs, bus duty, playground duty, corridors, study hall, and other related areas.
  • Accompany students on field trips for the purpose of assisting with supervision.
  • Construct, copy, distribute, and use educational materials as needed.
  • Assist teacher with parent contact as requested to foster effective and participatory parent involvement in student education.
  • Assist students with special needs in all aspects of classroom instruction to maximize inclusion, learning, and achievement relative to IEP objectives, etc.
  • Participate in the IEP process and serve as a resource for the student personnel evaluation team as needed.
  • Assist students with physical or mental disabilities with activities of daily living to maximize their ability to participate in school or learning activities.
  • Follow all applicable safety rules, procedures, and regulations governing the proper manner of assistance for all students, including those with disabilities or other special needs.
Additional Duties
  • Assist guidance, pupil services staff, or building administration as needed.
  • Perform any other related duties as assigned.
Equipment

Use standard office equipment, such as personal computers and copiers.

Travel Requirements

Travel between schools, or between schools and central offices, may be required for certain positions.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Execute instructions furnished in written or oral form.
  • Perform basic arithmetic operations as needed to assist students.
  • Use personal computers and software applications (e.g., Word, Excel).
  • Work with a diverse group of individuals.
  • Maintain confidentiality of information regarding students, employees, and others.
  • Establish a supportive and compassionate relationship with students with special needs.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, staff, and others contacted in the course of work.
  • Report work orally or in writing to supervisor as required.
  • Demonstrate effective writing and verbal communication skills.
Physical and Mental Demands, Work Hazards

Work in standard office and school building environments. Work outdoors during outdoor student activities.
