Job summary

Diocese of Austin Catholic Schools is seeking a Substitute to fill in for staff in temporary absences, following the plans provided by the principal or office administrator. The role reports to the principal and serves to uphold Catholic education and Gospel values within the school community.

The Substitute will support students and staff, maintain accurate records, and adhere to school policies while following established instructions for the assignment.

• Knowledge of the basic teachings of the Catholic Church.
• Knowledge of instructional methods/strategies and curriculum differentiation.
• Able to work well with others in the school community.
• Ability to manage student behavior in classroom setting.

The Substitute fills in for the employees in their temporary absence. The Substitute follows the plans, guides, provided by the principal or office administrator. This position reports to the principal.

Ministerial Character

Catholic schools in the Diocese of Austin are canonically obedient to the Bishop and assist him in fulfilling his ministry and canonical obligations. Pastors, presidents, and principals serve as leaders of the schools to make Christ's mission present and enduring in the schools. In order to fulfill Christ's mission, the school leaders employ suitable, chosen collaborators, sharing with them Christ's mission and entrusting to them various responsibilities.

Responsibilities:

Minimum Qualifications

Education:

• High School Diploma

Experience:

• None required.

Certifications and Training:

• Valid Texas driver's license.
• Must maintain compliance with the Diocese of Austin Ethics and Integrity in Ministry (EIM) policies throughout the employment period.
• Must meet the minimum requirements for teaching field as set forth by the Diocese and TCCED.

Mental/Physical Demands:

• Required to sit, stand, bend, stoop, reach, grab, pull, hear, see and speak on a daily basis.
• Dexterity of hands and fingers to demonstrate activities and prepare materials.
• Required to maintain composure and avoid inappropriate displays of anger.
• Required to monitor students in a variety of locations with noise, activity and inclement weather.
