Job summary

Westminster Schools of Augusta seeks a substitute teacher to support Pre-K through 12 in a Christian, college-preparatory environment. Candidates should be committed to equipping students to live extraordinary lives for Jesus Christ and comfortable filling additional openings such as coaching roles.

Responsibilities include following lesson plans, maintaining classroom order, and supporting the regular teacher.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or higher required.
• Strong professional conduct and support of the Christian mission.

Responsibilities

• In the absence of the regular classroom teacher to help students learn subject matter and skills.
• Carries out a program of study prescribed in the lesson plans left by the classroom teacher.
• Creates a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate to students' maturity and interests.
• Guides learning toward curriculum goals and objectives in lesson plans.
• Employs instructional methods and materials appropriate for meeting lesson objectives.
• Maintains a neat and orderly classroom; assist with basic classroom duties.
• Takes attendance following school procedures.
• Communicates expected behavior at class start per school policy.
• Ensures students are never left unattended in class.
• May perform duties such as lunchroom duty or hall monitoring when substituting.
• Knows emergency evacuation routes for assigned classrooms and disciplinary procedures.
• Understands school procedures and regulations; performs other duties as directed by principal.
• Use of personal electronic equipment is prohibited during class hours.

Westminster Schools of Augusta is a Pre-K through 12 regionally-accredited, coeducational, college-preparatory, Christian day school enrolling close to 650 students. The 34-acre campus is located in a residential section of Augusta, which is Georgia’s second-largest metropolitan area. The school is affiliated with First Presbyterian Church of Augusta (PCA), but the student body and faculty include members from more than 90 different local churches of various denominations.

Substitute Teacher

Essential Functions & Expectation

• In the absence of the regular classroom teacher to help students to learn subject matter and/or skills that are required for scheduled lessons and to provide meaningful instruction for assigned classrooms
• Carries out a program of study prescribed in the lesson plans left by the classroom teacher
• Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students
• Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and objectives as indicated in the lesson plans for the lessons, units, or projects assigned
• Employs instructional methods and materials that are most appropriate for meeting lesson objectives
• Maintains a neat and orderly classroom. Straightens chairs, tables, clears chalkboard, etc.
• Takes attendance in accordance with school procedures
• Indicates to students at beginning of class the basic expectations for behavior in the class in accordance with school policy
• Insures that the students are never left unattended in the classroom
• May perform duties usually required of absent teacher such as lunchroom duty, hall monitoring, etc.
• Knows emergency evacuation routes for the classrooms assigned
• Knows procedures for referring students who are disciplinary problems
• Knows school procedures and regulations
• Performs other related duties as directed by principal
• Use of personal electronic equipment is prohibited during class hours.

General Qualifications

• Candidate must be at least 18 years of age
• Christian who attends a Bible Believing Church
• A bachelor’s degree or higher
• Candidate must agree to fingerprinting and authorize Westminster via Richmond County Board of Education to conduct a Criminal History Records Search
• High standards of professional conduct, support of the Christian mission of the school
