Job summary

Morris School District in Morristown, NJ seeks a Substitute Security Monitor to support safety in the Buildings and Grounds area. The role requires enforcing district policies, monitoring entrances and hallways, and responding to emergencies.

Evening availability is required; previous security or law enforcement experience is preferred. You will work under the District Manager of Safety and Operations and assist visitors while maintaining a secure school environment.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience in law enforcement or security preferred.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, and school staff.
  • Enforce district safety and security policies and procedures to prevent injuries, thefts, and vandalism, or other undesired activities.
  • Evening availability.

Responsibilities

  • Implement the building security plan on a daily basis.
  • Knowledge of the building Crisis Management Plan and ability to implement it.
  • Display ethical and professional behavior in working with students, parents, school personnel, and outside agencies associated with the school.
  • Promote student responsibility for behavior and attitude by serving as a role model and dressing and grooming professionally.
  • Wear district-designated attire in a presentable manner during assigned work hours.
  • Intervene in situations likely to result in disruption or injury and direct students to refrain from such conduct.
  • Ensure a smooth traffic flow of students through the hallways, assisting students with on‑time arrival to class and to assigned locations.
  • Monitor the halls, stairwells, and grounds to maintain a safe environment.
  • Monitor the entrance of students, visitors, and other persons to maintain security of the building.
  • Assist visitors with directions and secure proper identification. Intercept unauthorized visitors and escort them to exits.
  • Ensure the safety and security of all persons in the school building, on school grounds, and at school‑sponsored events.
  • Consistently enforce the MHS code of conduct, District rules and regulations, and local statutes with all students.
  • Work with administrators or their designees and office personnel in locating and escorting students in the building.
  • Prepare reports and logs as requested by the supervisor.
  • Perform such other duties in the fulfillment of job responsibilities as deemed necessary by the supervisor.

RATE OF PAY
  • $20 per hour - on an as-needed basis

Employees of the Morris School District hired after the effective date who do not reside in the State of New Jersey at the time of hire have one year from the effective date of employment to relocate their primary residence to New Jersey. Employees of the school district hired prior to the September 1, 2011, effective date of this Act are grandfathered and are not required to relocate to New Jersey.

Earned Sick Leave: You accrue 1 hour of earned sick leave for every 30 hours worked, up to a maximum of 40 hours of leave per benefit year. For example, if you work 40 hours a week, you will earn 5.33 hours of earned sick leave in 4 weeks.
