The Substitute School Cafeteria Assistant fills in for absent employees, assisting in preparing and serving meals and supporting all aspects of daily kitchen duties. The employee works independently in a fast‑paced work environment with limited timelines. The work location will vary by school need.
The physical demands of this job require frequent standing, walking, sitting, speaking and hearing. The employee must reach with hands and arms and occasionally lift items weighing less than 40 lbs. They must also understand vague and implicit instructions, recall facts and details, handle conflict, and make effective decisions under pressure. Managing stress while interacting with diverse students, parents, and staff in a dynamic environment is essential.
Work is performed in a professional environment with a wide variety of individuals having differing functions, personalities and abilities, including working with diverse groups of people in a variety of settings. The employee may be exposed to video displays, outdoor weather conditions, and a moderate noise level.
Employees must have the ability to read and write in English and to comprehend and carry out oral and written directions. Offers of employment are contingent upon completion of a satisfactory criminal background check. This position may require work in ASD facilities on military installations (JBER).
