SCHOOL BUS DRIVER - (SUBSTITUTE)

REPORTS TO: District Superintendent & Transportation Supervisor

RELATES TO: Building Principals, teachers, students, parents, transportation and other support staff

QUALIFICATIONS

Valid commercial drivers license (CDL – Class B with passenger endorsement), Illinois school bus drivers permit, telephone communication, and transportation to and from work.

JOB GOAL/FUNCTION

To perform as an integral part of the transportation program of the Beecher School District, including regular routes, field trips and extra‑curricular activities.

SPECIFIC DUTIES
  1. Transport students safely to and from school and other destinations as designated.
  2. Comply with the rules as set forth in Title 23, Illinois Administrative Code, Subtitle A, Chapter 1, Paragraph 275, Subchapter H, Section 275.110.
  3. Drivers must maintain standards set by the Illinois Vehicle Code, Illinois Revised Statutes, and Beecher School District #200U.
  4. Obey all traffic laws.
  5. Maintain a prompt and reliable schedule on assigned route.
  6. Perform a daily pre‑trip inspection, including checking tires. All results must be reported on pre‑trip sheets and filed properly in the transportation department office.
  7. Perform a daily radio check in compliance with the law.
  8. Keep inside of the bus/vehicle clean, and fuel as needed.
  9. Maintain adequate discipline when students are in your charge, reporting discipline problems to the building principal in a timely fashion.
  10. Report all accidents and complete required reports.
  11. Include name and bus number on ALL forms.
  12. Transport only authorized students.
  13. Load and discharge students only at authorized stops.
  14. Exercise responsible leadership when on in‑district and out‑of‑district trips.
  15. Attend necessary meetings, activities and/or workshops during the year.
  16. Check assigned bus driver mailbox for messages or notices daily.
  17. Complete daily mileage and fuel sheets.
  18. Complete your own time sheet.
  19. Complete required form for sick day(s), when necessary.
  20. Close all bus windows and doors nightly.
  21. Watch your gauges; be alert for noise and changes in the “feel” of your bus. Notify the mechanic immediately if anything is noticed.
  22. Keep routes and maps current and updated with the District office. Current maps should be posted on the bulletin board at the Intergovernmental Facility (hereinafter referred to as “Facility”) at all times.
  23. Complete a map of exact route taken inclusive of the names and addresses of students being transported on said route. The map must also include round‑trip mileage of said route, beginning and ending at the Facility.
  24. Drivers shall keep a current list of all students assigned to their routes. Any changes to the list will be forwarded to the District Office as soon as possible.
  25. Renew his/her permit in a timely manner annually. Beecher School District cannot guarantee a driver’s assigned route in the event his/her permit has lapsed.
  26. Safety drills are to be conducted twice a year to meet state standards.
