Job summary

Southeast Polk Community School District is seeking a Substitute Bus Driver responsible for ensuring student safety while operating a bus. The ideal candidate will have strong skills in operating a variety of buses, effective communication, and a commitment to maintaining discipline on the bus.

This position requires experience with special education needs, adherence to safety rules, and participation in training sessions. The driver must also conduct vehicles inspections and ensure cleanliness.

Qualifications

• Ability to undertake physical, criminal background and child abuse checks.
• Complete required pre-work screening at the time of hire.

Responsibilities

• Operate a school bus safely and efficiently to ensure passenger safety.
• Drive routes as assigned, maintaining good driving habits under all weather conditions.
• Conduct safe and orderly loading and unloading of students.

Skills

Ability to learn the operation of various buses and handicap equipment

Computer skills useful for maintaining routing and student database

Experience working in a culturally diverse learning environment

Education

American Heart or Red Cross First Aid/CPR certification

Practical knowledge of characteristics and needs of Special Education students

One year minimum experience operating a passenger bus
