Qualifications

• Requires 90 college hours completed.
• Must obtain Texas Juvenile Supervision Officer certification within six months of hire.
• First Aid, CPR, and Non-Violent Restraint certifications required with annual renewal.

Responsibilities

• Maintains a safe, secure and positive environment while meeting detainees' educational, emotional, recreational and basic needs.
• Provides individual and group counseling for detainees.
• Imposes discipline when rules are violated; may restrain youth who are out of control.
• Intervenes in aggressive and self-injurious behaviors with crisis intervention and restraint.
• Supervises personal grooming, hygiene and housekeeping of detained youth.
• Maintains security through population and materials accounting; conducts searches of juveniles.
• Conducts facility-wide and personal searches for contraband.
• Performs all other related duties as assigned.

Job description

Provides a safe, secure and positive environment for juveniles detained in the Juvenile Detention Center. Supervise the activities of juveniles in the course of meeting their educational, emotional, recreational, disciplinary and basic child care needs. Supervise family visitation and documents juveniles' behavior and adaptation to a secure, supervised setting on a daily basis.

1. Maintains safe, secure and positive environment, while meeting the educational, emotional, recreational, and basic needs of each detainee
2. Provides individual and group counseling for detainees
3. Provides discipline when detainees violate rules and may restrain youth who are out of control
4. Intervenes in aggressive and self-injurious behaviors with crisis intervention, counseling, physical and mechanical restraint
5. Supervises the personal grooming, hygienic activities and housekeeping tasks of detained youth
6. Maintains security of residents and facility through regular accounting of population and materials as well as search of juveniles
7. Conducts facility-wide and personal searches for contraband
8. Performs all other related duties as assigned

• Ninety (90) college hours required.
• Must obtain Texas Juvenile Supervision Officer certification within six (6) months of hire.
• Must have First Aid, CPR, and Non-Violent Restraint with annual renewal of certification.
• Valid Texas Driver's License and proof of automobile liability insurance.
• Good written and verbal communication skills.
• Bilingual in Spanish preferred.

While performing the duties of this position, the incumbent is regularly required to walk, sit, stand, bend, stoop and lift.Exposure to communicable and contagious diseases; potential for physical and mechanical restraint situations involving juveniles who are violent and self-destructive.
