Purpose

Substitute Paraeducators are employed to work in special education classrooms at all levels.

Compensation

The substitute paraeducator is paid at a rate of $15.00 per hour.

Qualifications
  • Health and Inoculation Certificate on file in the Central Office.
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the board may find appropriate and acceptable.
Essential Functions
  1. Assist in facilitating the personal, social, and intellectual development of students.
  2. Assist in establishing a positive learning environment, and respond to the individual needs of students.
  3. Ensure that all programs and activities conform to district guidelines.
  4. Communicate effectively with all members of the school district and community.
  5. Appropriately operate all classroom equipment as required.
  6. React to change productively and handle other tasks as assigned.
  7. Support the value of an education.
  8. Support the vision and mission of USD 253.
Physical Requirements / Environmental Conditions
  1. Requires prolonged sitting or standing.
  2. Occasionally requires physical exertion to manually move, lift, carry, pull, or push heavy objects or materials.
  3. Occasionally requires stooping, bending, and reaching.
  4. Must work indoors and outdoors year-round.
  5. Must work in noisy and crowded environments.
General Responsibilities
  • Assist in the instruction and supervision of students.
  • Assist students with remedial work.
  • Tutor students as directed.
  • Assist with small group instruction.
  • Monitor student progress.
  • Grade papers and assist with recordkeeping.
  • Work effectively with students, teachers, parents, community agencies and other groups.
  • Respect the confidentiality of records and information regarding students, parents, and teachers in accordance with accepted professional ethics, and state and federal law.
  • Strive to maintain and improve professional competence.
  • Stay abreast of new technologies, data management and communication.
  • Comply with legal and regulatory requirements as provided by state and federal law.
  • Uphold and enforce board policy, administrative procedures, and school rules/regulations including but not limited to:
    • Acceptable use of technology
    • Sexual and racial harassment
    • Child abuse reporting
    • Health and safety including all precautions of the Bloodborne Pathogens Exposure Control Plan
  • Maintain safe and well‑organized instructional spaces.
  • Respond to change in a productive manner.
  • Strive to communicate the positive aspects of our school program to the public in word and deed.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Instructor, Principal, Director or other administrative staff.
