Job summary

Sunnyvale School District is seeking a Substitute Para Special Day Class to support students with behavior and learning needs. The role involves delivering ABA-based therapy, data collection, and individual reinforcement to help students participate in classroom activities.

You will work with teachers to monitor progress, assist with social skills, daily living tasks, and transitions between environments, including crisis management training as required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma required.
• Experience with behavioral management preferred.
• Ability to assist students with social skills and daily living tasks.

Responsibilities

• Support motor control activities under supervision.
• Supervise playground activities and support related IEP goals.
• Observe student behavior and collect data on incidents.

Substitute Para Special Day Class

Possess a high school diploma.

Responsibilities required but not limited to:

• Deliver discrete trial therapy based on the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis to individual students.
• Provide and use reinforcement on an individual student basis.
• Assist individual students in developing skills which lead him/her to join the mainstream educational environment and to help the student acquire independent work skills.
• Assist student transitions between different environments.

Knowledge and Ability to:

• Provide classroom teachers with information regarding student progress and behaviors.
• Assist the teacher and other staff with behavioral management needs.
• Monitor and assist individual students through structured and generalized skill lesson plans
• Instructs small groups of students to encourage appropriate social skills learning and facilitate appropriate students interactions with each other.
• Attend to the personal care needs of some students including toileting, washing, feeding, etc.
• Assist student in the development of small muscle and eye-hand coordination activities, leads activities designed to help students achieve motor control and body awareness as instructed by OT, APE teacher and/or classroom teacher.
• Supervise children on playground activities and support learning on related IEP goal objectives.
• Assist student in the development of their communication and socialization skills as instructed by supervisor.
• Observe the behavior of students to see that they do not injure themselves or others, take data on student’s behavioral incidences and consult with the supervisor as necessary.
• Engage in physical and sometimes strenuous activities with students such as running, weight shifting and positioning. Participate in crisis management training on an annual basis.
