Job summary

Orting School District is seeking a Substitute Nutrition Services Assistant for the 2026-27 school year. The role supports meal preparation, serving, transportation, and cleanup in a school district setting.

Substitute Nutrition Services Assistant (2026-27) JobID: 1255

PURPOSE: Assist in preparing and serving meals, clean up, and related food service duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Valid drivers' license/reliable transportation.
  • Previous school experience in quantity cooking preferred.
  • Ability to lift up to fifty pounds (50 lb).
  • Ability to stoop and climb as necessary.
  • Experience in handling money and operating a cash register.
  • Ability to relate to students, staff and parents.
  • Ability to operate computers and copiers.
  • Possess current food handlers card.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

High school diploma or equivalent.

Performance, Duties and Responsibilities
  • Performs a variety of duties in the preparation of, serving, transporting, and cleaningup after meals.
  • May be required to prepare food service receipts.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
2026-2027 Substitute Rate: $22.33
Licenses/Special Requirements
  • Fingerprinting and background check to determine that there have been no convictions involving physical molestation, abuse, injury or neglect of a minor.
  • Must complete SafeSchools trainings and adhere to district infection control plan.
  • May be required to obtain first aid and CPR certification
BENEFITS:

For on-call positions, eligibility for benefits is determined by a number of factors, including the number of hours an employee worked during the last two (2) school years (September 1 through August 31). Some on-call positions may not be benefit eligible. Benefits are administered through the Payroll Department. Additional information is available on their district webpage. Regular employees who are not in on-call positions and are anticipated to work630 hours or more in a year are eligible for the following benefits:medical, dental, vision, retirement, life insurance, long-term disability and the employee assistance program.

Sick leave, vacation, personal leave, and any paid holidays are aligned with bargaining agreements by association, as listed on our website.

Other benefits include VEBA, which is a Health Reimbursement Account (HRA) and serves as a way to contribute dollars on a pre-tax basis for out of pocket benefits costs, whether it be for medical, dental or vision premiums, or any other out of pocket medical expenses. This benefit is available, based on the outcome of annual voting of employees by group.
