Job summary

Henry Street Settlement is hiring Meal Deliverers for the Meals on Wheels program to deliver prepared meals to homebound seniors across Manhattan. The role requires a warm, charismatic approach and dependable transportation to complete daily routes.

This per diem, part-time position is fully onsite on the Lower East Side with regular travel across Manhattan. The schedule is Monday through Friday between 8am and 2pm, with on-call and overtime as needed. Non-exempt status and $22 per hour.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• Knowledge of Lower East Side and Midtown Manhattan streets.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills.
• Available to work on-call with little notice and overtime as needed.
• Interest in providing services to seniors.

Responsibilities

• Pick up meals from designated caterers and deliver to clients.
• Follow established routes and schedules for timely deliveries.
• Deliver meals to clients' doors and ensure accurate distribution.
• Perform quick wellness checks and report concerns to supervisor.
• Record daily delivery logs and temperature logs.
• Maintain vehicle cleanliness and report any issues.
• Adhere to program policies and procedures.
• Other related duties as assigned.

Job Summary:

Meal Deliverers for the Meals on Wheels program play a vital role in delivering prepared meals to homebound, incapacitated, and isolated seniors within a specific area of Manhattan. The Meal Deliverers demonstrate a warm and charismatic personality when engaging with seniors and conducting wellness checks.

Responsibilities

• Pick up meals from designated caterers, load them securely, and deliver them to assigned clients.
• Follow established routes and schedules to ensure timely deliveries.
• Deliver meals directly to clients' doors, ensuring accurate distribution.
• Perform a quick wellness check at each delivery, immediately reporting any concerns about clients' health, safety, or environment to the supervisor.
• Record daily delivery logs, monthly temperature, and taste test logs.
• Maintain the cleanliness of the vehicle, perform basic pre-trip and post-trip inspections, and report any vehicle issues.
• Adhere to program policies and procedures.
• Other related duties as assigned.

Essential Physical Job Functions:

• Must be able to lift and carry bags between 15 lbs. and 30 lbs.
• Must be able to walk up and down stairs.
• Able to walk at least one mile to complete deliveries.
• On-call and per diem scheduling will be based on program needs.There is exposure to various weather conditions during deliveries.

Requirements

• High school diploma/GED preferred.
