Job summary

Great Hearts Archway Phoenix seeks a Substitute K-5 Specially Designed Instruction Teacher to support students with IEP goals under supervision of a certified special education teacher. The role is non-exempt, hourly, with starting pay of $30 per hour and on-site at Great Hearts Archway Phoenix.

Responsibilities include developing lesson plans aligned to IEPs, providing one-on-one or small-group SDI, and assisting data collection and progress monitoring.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree and AZ Teaching Certificates (Substitute, SPED, or Alternative) required.
  • 1 year of successful teaching experience, preferably in a K-12 setting.
  • SPED experience preferred; ideal candidate has prior SPED experience.

Position Title: Substitute K-5 Specially Designed Instruction Teacher

Location: Great Hearts Archway Phoenix

Reports To: Headmaster

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt, Hourly

Hourly Rate: Starting at $30

Through the use of consultation, resource, and inclusion models in a variety of academic environments, the Special Education team aims to provide support for students while working to ensure as much time as appropriate is spent within the general classroom.

Roles and Responsibilities
  • Develop lesson plans for learning activities that align with individual student IEP goals that are created under supervision of a certified special education teacher or coordinator.
  • Provide one on one or small group specially designed instruction in academics, behavioral or social/emotional need areas for students with IEPs based on IEP goals.
  • Assist with data collection and progress monitoring of students IEP goals.
Required/Preferred Education
  • Bachelor's degree and Arizona Teaching Certificates Substitute, Special Education Teaching Certificate, or Alternative Certification.
Required/Preferred Experience
  • 1 year of successful teaching experience (preferably in a K-12 school setting)
  • 1 year of successful Special Education teaching experience (preferred)
  • The ideal candidate has previous experience in Special Education.
Required/Preferred Skills
  • Certifications: Arizona Department of Education Substitute Certification, Special Education Certificate in Cross/Categorical or Mild/Moderate; Alternative Teaching with approved area in Mild/Moderate Disabilities.
Physical Functions
  • Requires but is not limited to standing, sitting, repetitious hand and body movements, bending, squatting, and reaching.
  • May be required to move or position equipment up to 15 pounds approximately.

US work authorization is required, but we do accept OPT/CPT candidates. Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a criminal history background check and fingerprint clearance in accordance with state requirements. Travel required: May need to travel locally for training and professional development opportunities. This description reflects management’s assignment of essential functions.
