Job Summary:
This position maintains school buildings to provide students with a safe, attractive, clean and efficient place in which to learn. Responsibilities include operating vacuuming, scrubbing and polishing equipment; cleaning restrooms and shower areas; performing minor repairs and maintaining security of buildings and equipment.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Opens/Closes building; turns on lights, checks building security and temperature; report light bulbs that need replaced to maintenance as needed. Ensures that the heating/cooling system is operating properly; performs minor repairs or calls for maintenance service. Adjusts school clocks. Monitors fire alarm system for proper working conditions.
- Clean building floors by sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, or vacuuming.
- Cleans restrooms and shower rooms; sweeps and mops floors; empties trash. Washes mirrors and walls as needed. Scrubs and sanitizes sinks, toilets and urinals. Replaces supplies in dispensers, such as toilet paper and soap; maintains supply stock.
- Remove trash from buildings and grounds. Clean and sanitize surfaces as needed.
- Cleans cafeteria floors and tables before and after each meal. Cleans kitchen area; assists cooks in lifting heavy containers as requested.
- Washes windows and walls as needed. Operates stripping, buffing and polishing and shampooing equipment to clean floors and carpeted areas. Performs minor repairs to building or equipment.
- Shovels snow and clears debris as needed. Assists in cleaning sidewalks, driveways, parking lot and play areas as time allows.
- Check fire extinguishers, exit lights and other emergency systems regularly. Scans immediate area for safety hazards; alerts supervisor if additional action is needed.
- Locks doors; checks and locks windows. Ensures that equipment is stored in a secure and orderly manner.
- Sets up tables and chairs for special events. May direct building visitors and unlock rooms for authorized persons.
- Communicates with staff and students during shift; responds to emergencies or requests for repair, moving of furniture or supplies, removal of clogs in drains, or cleanup.
- Performs related duties as assigned.

Operations Supervisor
Working conditions:
Required to stand for prolonged periods; occasionally required to work at heights. Exposed to high noise levels from equipment; required to lift and carry heavy supplies, trash containers and equipment. Works around machinery with moving parts. Hazardous chemical use requires precautions.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school graduation or equivalent.
- Cleaning experience.
Knowledge and Skills:
- Effective oral communication skills.
- General knowledge of cleaning procedures.
- Ability to properly lift up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to follow written and verbal directions.
- Ability to meet daily schedules and complete duties independently with general instruction.
- Ability to remain flexible to changes in assignments or situations
- Ability to deal with students in a warm confident manner.
- Ability to successfully maintain working relationships with staff.
- Work independently.
- Knowledge of safe handling of chemicals.
