Job summary

Spotswood Public Schools is seeking a Substitute Custodian to support janitorial operations when full-time staff are not on duty. The role aims to keep facilities tidy, sanitary, presentable and secure for students and staff.

Salary is approximately $17 per hour as needed, not to exceed 29 hours weekly, with duties including maintaining a safe environment, operating equipment, and collaborating with district staff.

Job description

Substitute custodians take on janitorial responsibilities when full-time custodians aren't on duty. These are generally part-time positions. The job objective is to ensure that their work setting is tidy, sanitary, presentable and secure for all of the people who frequent it.

Purpose: The Substitute Custodian provides a safe, attractive, comfortable, and clean environment, on an as-needed basis, to ensure full and productive use of district facilities. To accomplish these tasks the Custodian must work closely with the supervisor, staff and administration.

Responsible To: Director of Buildings and Grounds.

Substitute Custodian Salary: 17.00 an hour (as needed and not to exceed 29 hours weekly)

Physical Requirements/Environmental Conditions:
1. Requires prolonged standing.
2. Requires physical exertion to manually move, lift, carry, pull, or push heavy objects or materials.
3. Must be able to lift 50 pounds on a repeated basis throughout a 8 hour shift.
4. Requires stooping, kneeling, crawling, bending, turning, and reaching.
5. Requires climbing and balancing.
6. Must work indoors and outdoors year-round.
7. Must work in noisy and crowded environments.
8. Must work in and around dust, fumes, and odors.
