Job summary

Currituck County Schools Maintenance/Transportation Department is seeking Substitute Transportation Safety Assistants (Bus Monitors) in Currituck, NC. The role requires a high school diploma, ability to pass a medical exam, and possible physical tests aligned with state standards.

You will assist students on buses, ensure safety, and support special needs students under supervision. Position is 10 months, with compensation per the NC state salary schedule plus local supplement.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma required.
• Must pass a medical examination.
• May require a physical performance test per NC DMV standards.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; positive role model.

Responsibilities

• Help students move to their assigned seats on the bus.
• Maintain order and discipline per district policies and code of conduct.
• Restrain students as required by IEP/504 plans.
• Assist with loading/unloading, secure equipment, help students with special needs.
• Assist with evacuations during emergencies or drills.
• Maintain student confidentiality and communicate with parents and school staff.
• Monitor behavior and follow individual behavior plans.
• Comply with laws, rules and transportation department policies.
• Participate in trainings and other assigned duties.
