Special Requirements
- Candidate must be at least 18 years of age;
- Candidate must possess a valid Virginia Commercials Driver's License with Air Brake, School Bus and Passenger Bus endorsements;
- Candidate must satisfy an annual physical examination for employment as a school bus driver by a physician licensed by the Commonwealth of Virginia;
- Candidate must satisfy all other requirements of the State Board of Education for persons employed to drive a school bus;
- Candidate must submit to random and post accident drug testing;
- Candidate must possess good moral character and is expected to be a role model.
The School Bus Driver operates school bus and other vehicles for the purpose of transporting students to and from designated locations. Essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:
- Safely operates a school bus over long distances across interstate and state primary roads at sustained legally allowed speeds, in a manner that fosters a safe and conscientious image to the public; as defined by the Virginia Department of Education & Greene County Policy.
- Conducts safe and orderly loading and unloading of students at authorized stops;
- Maintains order, discipline, and safety on the bus;
- Attends pre-service, in-service, and all other required meetings pertaining to the position;
- Performs routine operator care of the bus to include: washing/cleaning the interior and exterior; sweeping interior, removal of trash; performing pre-trip and post-trip inspections of equipment and reporting found defects; and presenting bus for regularly scheduled maintenance;
- Positions spare and regular route buses where needed and ensuring the buses are full of fuel.
- Sweeps, fuels, removes trash and returns bus to its location if the bus was used on a athletic/field trip run or being used as a spare on a route.
- Ability to work as a team and follow instruction from administrators and transportation office staff.
- Maintain a friendly, professional, businesslike demeanor toward students, parents, staff and the community at large.

Substitute Salary: $25.00 per run
Athletic or Activity Field Trips: $10.00 per hour
Tech class period runs: $5.00 per hour
