Job summary

Launchlearning in Seattle is seeking a dedicated Substitute Teacher to provide a safe, caring, and academically enriching environment for school-age children across our on-site programs.   • Dependable transportation to site locations.

Launch is dedicated to ensuring a brilliant start for all children. Our programs serve a diverse group of over 1,000 children ages 3-12 and are located on-site in 10 Seattle Public Schools locations, 3 community centers, and one Impact Public School location. Substitute teachers are responsible for providing a safe, caring, and academically and socially enriching environment for school-age children. This position ensures that the curriculum and activities are developmentally appropriate and meet all identified academic and developmental domains.

Essential Job Functions
  • Supervise and manage groups of children
  • Attend scheduled staff meetings
  • Maintain the safety of children
  • Maintain organization and cleanliness of the site
  • Prepare and serve snacks to the children
  • Build strong and nurturing relationships with children and families
  • Positive communication with parents, staff, supervisors, school, etc.
  • Enforce all general safety rules of the center
  • Assist in positive behavior management techniques when required
  • Obtain required training and ongoing professional development
  • Ability to work a minimum of 1 shift every two months.
Qualifications

Minimum Education, Experience & Training Equivalent:

  • Must be a minimum of 18 years of age
  • A minimum of 1 year of education beyond high school is required. An AA in education or a related field is preferred
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience working with children is required
  • A minimum of one year of experience working with school-age children, demonstrating knowledge and competence in:
  • Activity planning/coordinating
  • Demonstrated ability to manage confidential information appropriately
  • Proven ability to communicate with children and adults in a positive and proactive manner
  • Ability to create versatile and varied age-appropriate activities for children of different ages and developmental stages
  • A demonstrated ability to work effectively both independently and as a team member
  • Dependable transportation, ability to get to all site locations as needed.

Desired but not required:

  • Experience working in a non-profit organization
  • BA degree in Early Childhood Education or Elementary Education
Knowledge and Skills
  • Ability to work and interact with children and parents
  • Create and implement curriculum, utilizing Student Voice and Choice. Proficient knowledge of Microsoft office programs
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced environment on cross-functional teams with a wide range of personalities
  • Exceptional problem-solving abilities
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
  • Detail oriented
Condition of Employment
  • Ability to obtain and maintain criminal record clearance
  • TB Clearance

  • Mandated Reported Training
  • Must attend any required training
After Hire
  • Washington State Department of Children, Youth, and Families Trainings:
  • Medication Management
  • Disaster and Emergency Preparedness
Within Three Months of Hire
  • Completion of STARS Basic 30 hour Child Care course
