Job summary

POWERX is seeking a Substation Wireman to install, wire, maintain and troubleshoot electrical systems in substations, supporting the crew leader and ensuring safety and compliance with industry standards and project specs.

This role requires reading drawings, ability to work with control cables, transformers, breakers and relays, plus a high school diploma or GED and an electrical apprenticeship. Travel across the United States is possible.

Qualifications

  • Must have a high school diploma or GED; electrical apprenticeship preferred.
  • Ability to read electrical drawings, wiring diagrams, schematics, and blueprints.
  • Experience with substation wiring, maintenance, and commissioning is expected.
  • Knowledge of safety standards (OSHA) and PPE usage.

Responsibilities

  • Learn to read and work from electrical drawings, diagrams and blueprints.
  • Install and maintain substation wiring and equipment.
  • Participate in commissioning work with electrical/mechanical crews.
  • Terminate control, power, and communication cables for substation equipment.
  • Support safety, compliance and documentation for projects.

Job Summary:

The Substation Wiremanis responsible forperforming the installation, wiring, maintenance, and troubleshooting of electrical systems and equipment in substations. This role supports the crew leader, ensuring that all workcomplywith industry standards, safety regulations, and project specifications.

Duties/Responsibilities:

Technical Accountabilities

  • Learn how to read, interpret, and work from electrical drawings, wiring diagrams, schematics, and blueprints.
  • Learn about material inventory, tools, and documentationrequiredfor substation wiring projects.

Commissioning and Validation

  • Perform the installation and maintenance of substation wiring and equipment.
  • Participate in all aspects of commissioning work for dedicated projects with electrical/mechanical crews.
  • Install andterminatecontrol, power, and communication cables for substation equipment including transformers, circuit breakers, control panels, and relays.

Troubleshooting and Problem Resolution

  • Participatesin the process of identifyingand resolving issues with electrical/mechanical systems and equipment during the comm issioning process.
  • Assistwith the troubleshooting and testing of electrical circuits and components to ensure proper operation.

Documentation and Reporting

  • Prepare daily notes for work completed andsubmitstocrewleader for approval.

Safety and Compliance

  • Perform work in compliance with applicable safety regulations (e.g., OSHA).
  • Learn andmaintainhigh standardsfor electrical safety, lockout/tagout procedures, and hazard mitigation.
  • Stay in compliance with industry standards, codes, and client specifications.
  • Support the safety cultureand forsafe working conditions.
  • Maintain compliance with all customer requirementsand withinternal training.

Additionalresponsibilities and tasks asrequiredto support the organization's goals and adapt to evolving business needs.

Attributes/Abilities:

  • Must have a satisfactory background/MVR check.
  • Must pass a pre-employment, post-accident, reasonable suspicion, and/or random drug test.
  • Understanding both company and client expectations as it relates to safety, quality, complianceand the documentationfor projects.
  • Ability or knowledge around conduit bending, cable pulling, crimping, soldering, and cable terminations (e.g., control cable, CT/VT wiring).
  • Available to work on an as-needed basis, with potential short-notice assignments.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Learn andmaintainthorough knowledge of protections and control wiring techniques,guidelinesand best practices.
  • Verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

Experience and Education:

  • High school diploma or GED; completion of a certified electrical apprenticeship is preferred.
  • 0-3 years of progressive experience in substation construction, wiring, or maintenance.
  • Experience with power utilities is preferred.
  • Ability to obtain an OSHA 10 certification.
  • Working knowledge around substation equipment, control systems, and protection schemes.
  • Knowledge of use, limitations, and maintenance of all Personal Protective Equipment.

Physical Requirements:

  • Combination of office and field work environment with frequent travel to project sites through the United States; must have a valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and must be insurable.
  • May require working in various environmental conditions, including construction sites, operational facilities, and energized equipment up to 500kV.
  • Ability tolift upto 50 pounds.
  • Ability and willingness to work occasional overtimeasneeded.
  • Potential low exposure to various conditions, including dirt, heat, fumes, smoke, water, noise, vibration, grease, oil, and dust.
