Job summary

Cianbro is seeking a Substation Electrician in the Indianapolis area with 3+ years of substation experience. The role involves interpreting blueprints, installing transformers, switchgear, and other substation equipment, plus wiring and metering systems.

Must handle 34kV terminations and rigging, operate lift and forklift, and maintain safety standards. Candidates should be skilled in electrical testing tools, grounding, and protection grounding.

Qualifications

  • Must have 3+ years of experience working on substations.
  • Preferred OSHA 1910.269 Certified.
  • Knowledge of high voltage equipment maintenance for planning, layout, and repair.
  • Skilled in using and maintaining electrical tools and test equipment listed above.
  • Knowledge of substation grounding to create an equipotential work zone.
  • Skilled in installing protection grounds.
  • Must have related experience in a high voltage environment.

Responsibilities

  • Observe and practice all corporate safety policies and procedures.
  • Interpret electrical construction blueprints and Elementary Drawings.
  • Install substation structures and equipment such as transformers, switchgear, CCVT, reactors, capacitors, batteries, circuit breakers, Gang operated switches, and other substation components.
  • Install basic electrical below and above grade raceways and wiring.
  • Install equipment related to metering, communication systems, and relaying systems including electro-mechanical and solid-state types.
  • Experience with up to 34kV stress cone terminations.
  • Experience with rigging operations.
  • Operate vehicles and equipment necessary to perform the job (e.g., personal lift, skid steer, reach truck).
  • Recognize and control hazards in substation work.
  • Must have the majority of the skills and experience listed above.

  • Install basic electrical below and above grade raceways and wiring.
  • Installation of equipment related to metering, communication systems, and relaying systems which include electro-mechanical and solid-state electronic types where applicable.
  • Experience with up to 34kv stress cone terminations.
  • Experience with Rigging operations.
  • Operate vehicles and equipment necessary to perform the job such as Personal lift, Skid Steer, and Reach Truck.
  • Recognize and control the hazards involved in working in a substation.
  • Must have the majority of the skills and experience listed above.

  • Knowledge of technical practices in order to plan, layout, and complete maintenance or repair needed for high voltage equipment.
  • Skilled in using and maintaining electrical tools and test equipment such as rotation meters, digital test equipment, amp meters, voltmeters, meggers.
  • Knowledge of Substation grounding to create an equipotential work zone.
  • Skilled in installing protection grounds.
  • Must have related experience in a high voltage environment.
