Job summary

HDR is seeking a Substation Structural Project Engineer in the United States (Minnesota) to design and manage civil engineering tasks for power facilities. You will lead technical work, prepare specs, and coordinate with project teams on mid-size projects.

The role requires a PE license, 3+ years of civil experience, and strong CAD skills (Bentley/AutoCAD). Excellent leadership and communication abilities are essential in our employee-owned culture.

Qualifications

• Requires professional engineering license recognized by the licensing board for the location of the position offered (PE).
• 3+ years of general civil engineering experience.
• Proficient with CAD software such as Bentley Open Roads Designer and/or Autodesk Civil 3D; OpenFlows as required.
• Demonstrated leadership and communication skills.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office; good verbal and written communication.

Responsibilities

• Design and plan production for general civil on a wide variety of projects such as site layouts, control, grading, drainage, paving and utilities.
• Perform quantity calculations.
• Prepare specifications and contract documents.
• Handle complex assignments with judgment in evaluating and modifying engineering techniques.
• Make decisions on significant design and engineering procedures as needed.
• Function as a Technical Specialist or Project Manager on mid-size projects as needed (PM focus not sole).
• Supervise a small staff of professionals and technicians as needed.
• Perform other duties as needed.

In the role of Substation Structural Project Engineer, we'll count on you to:

• Design and plan production for general civil on a wide variety of projects, including site layouts, horizontal and vertical control, grading and drainage, paving, site utilities, and associated civil engineering activities
• Perform quantity calculations
• Prepare specifications and contract documents
• Perform complex assignments exercising judgment in evaluation, selection and modification of standard engineering techniques and procedures
• Make decisions on significant design and engineering procedures as needed
• Function as a Technical Specialist or Project Manager on mid-size projects as needed, but project management is not the sole focus of this position
• Supervise a small staff of professionals and technicians as needed
• Perform other duties as needed

Preferred Qualifications

• A minimum of 3 years experience in general civil engineering
• Proficient and demonstrated applied experience with CAD civil engineering software such as Bentley Open Roads Designer and/or Autodesk Civil 3D; specialty civil platforms (e.g., Openflows) as required

Required Qualifications

Requires professional engineering license recognized by the licensing board for the location of the position offered. Example: Professional Engineer (PE or P.Eng) license.
