Job Overview
HDR is seeking a dynamic and experienced Substation P&C Engineering Team Lead to lead and grow our nationally ranked Power Delivery team. The role is responsible for the technical aspects and deliverables of assigned projects and is a key member of the NC Power Delivery management team.
Responsibilities
- Team Management & Development: Managing a high-performing substation P&C engineering team, assigning responsibilities, mentoring junior staff, and fostering a collaborative culture focused on technical excellence, innovation, and accountability.
- Project Oversight: Overseeing the technical execution of substation projects, ensuring quality, timeliness, and budget compliance. Planning and allocating resources for junior staff in alignment with HDR’s project execution processes.
- Proposal Development: Assisting with developing proposals, including technical writing and project estimating in the area of technical expertise.
- Strategic Growth & Business Planning: Supporting the Substation Business Class Manager’s growth strategies by identifying and developing specific technical expertise.
- Technical Leadership & Innovation: Attending trainings to further develop understanding of complex concepts related to the discipline.
- Collaboration & Integration: Working with Client Managers, Operational Managers, and Technical Leaders to ensure seamless integration of services and consistent delivery of world‑class solutions.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous consulting firm experience desired.
- Previous staff supervision experience preferred.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering.
- PE License.
- Design experience with high voltage electrical switchyard and substation projects of varying complexity up to 500kV, including conceptual knowledge of P&C design and applicable design standards (IEEE, ANSI, etc.).
- Experience using industry standard design software (AutoCAD and/or MicroStation).
- Ability to travel, less than 10%.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
- Minimum of 7 years experience.
- Professional registration, license, or certification may be required based on role.
- Strong communication and listening skills.
- Ability to handle multiple assignments.
- Good leadership and organizational skills.
