Job summary

Pcapower is seeking a Substation Journeyman to perform skilled electrical work in the operation, construction, maintenance, and repair of high voltage substations at various locations across Texas. The role requires adherence to safety standards and hands-on problem solving.

Ideal candidates will have 5 years of related experience, be able to read and communicate in English, and be willing to travel and work outdoors in diverse conditions. A pre-employment drug screen is required.

Qualifications

  • 5 years of related experience and training.
  • Able to read and communicate effectively in English.
  • Work is performed outside with exposure to extreme cold, heat, inclement weather & noise.
  • Willing to work in various locations across the state/country and for extended periods.
  • Must pass pre-employment drug screen.

Responsibilities

  • Perform high voltage substation work including construction, maintenance and repair.
  • Troubleshoot and correct malfunctions of substation equipment.
  • Safely operate company vehicles, test equipment and tools.
  • Follow company safety protocols and industry standards.
  • Maintain PPE and ensure safe, efficient operation of equipment.
  • Collaborate with team to complete tasks and meet project deadlines.

Position Summary:

A Substation Journeyman performs highly skilled, journeyman-level electrical work in the operation, construction, maintenance, and repair of high voltage electric substations, and other related electrical and mechanical equipment associated with high voltage electric substations. This position works at various locations.

Essential Functions:

  • Works safely while performing new construction, maintenance or repair, testing, adjusting and troubleshooting work of substation equipment/systems which includes, but is not limited to, work involving the following:
    • Concrete Foundations, ground grids, and steel erection
    • Buswork (High and Low Voltage)
    • Airbreak / Hookstick Switches
    • Control Cable
    • Terminations (High / Low Voltage)
    • Control Buildings
    • Conduit and duck banks
    • Capacitor bank installations 23kv- 230 kv
    • Transformers, regulators and circuit breakers
    • Circuit Switchers, motor-operated and manual switches
  • During installation and or maintenance, trouble shoot and correct malfunctions of all substation equipment.
  • Safe operation of all company and related construction equipment used for substation, transmission, and distribution line construction.
  • Follow company and industry safety protocols within the construction of substations.
  • Any other tasks as directed.
  • Responsible for maintaining Company vehicles, test equipment and tools in good working conditions
  • Frequently works with energized high voltage systems requiring skill and care to protect the lives of themselves and others.

Other Requirements:

  • 5 yrs of related experience and training.
  • Able to read and communicate effectively in English.
  • Work is performed outside and includes exposure to extreme cold, heat inclement weather & noise.
  • Willing to work in various locations across the state/country and for extended periods, when required.
  • Must be able to follow Company safety rules and all other Company policies.
  • CDL is not required but a plus; Valid Driver's license required
  • Willing to submit and pass a pre-employment drug screen
  • Ability to perform all assigned tasks in a safe and effective manner
  • Ability to understand and communicate information and work in a team environment
  • Able to stoop, kneel, crouch, dig, climb and reach
  • Able to lift, carry and place heavy objects
  • Must have acceptable MVR
