Substation Equipment Operator (Maintenance)
Position Summary

The Substation Equipment Operator is an entry level, non-exempt position in the construction, maintenance and/or repair of electric substation systems and works with various pieces of construction equipment specific to the trade.

Note: Travel to Florida and other states is required.

Essential Functions
  • Work safely while performing construction, maintenance and/or repair work of electric substation systems.
  • Assist in the transporting, installation, and/or removal of substation structures, equipment, and hardware, electrical conductors, wire, and cable.
  • Capable of or learning to operate various types of heavy equipment:
  • Bucket, derrick and boom trucks
  • Backhoes, excavators and skid steer loaders
  • Articulating Man-lifts
  • Pressure Diggers
  • Trenchers
  • Track Crawler Loader/Backhoe
  • Rough Terrain Telescopic Forklifts
  • Read and interpret profile, blueprints, maps, or other written instructions for completion of assigned tasks.
  • Does all other related work as required to complete the job.
  • Responsible for maintaining company vehicles in good working condition.
  • Able to perform rigorous physical labor.
  • Able to read and understand simple blueprints, maps, and diagrams.
  • Able to identify energized high and low voltage lines.
  • Basic knowledge in electricity.
  • Knowledge of safety hazards inherent in working in close proximity to energized high and low voltage lines and equipment.
  • Knowledge of the Motor Vehicle Code as it relates to the operation of heavy equipment in the state the job is located.
  • Must supply own personal hand tools required by the company for this work.
  • Must supply own safety toed work boots.
  • Must be capable of lifting in excess of 50 lbs
  • Capable of receiving and following directions.
  • Must possess or be capable of obtaining a Commercial Drivers' License.
  • Capable of working at heights and/or confined spaces.
  • Willing to work over-time or long hours during emergency conditions and/or when requested. Schedules can change frequently and with short notice.
  • 90% Travel Required
  • Capable of following Company safety rules and policies.
  • Willing to work outside of the normal work schedule including weekends, holidays, and overtime as required for the position.

is occasionally exposed to a variety of extreme conditions at construction job sites. The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud. This position

is performed in outside weather conditions.
