Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Civil, or Mechanical Engineering.
  • MBA, PMP, or master's in Engineering Management preferred.
  • PE license required; ability to license in additional states.
  • 10+ years' substation and relaying experience preferred.
  • 5+ years in the engineering consulting business.
  • 5+ years managing people.
  • Strong business network development.
  • Experience with engineering/design software (AutoCAD, CymTCC, SEL).
  • Willingness to travel up to 10%.
  • Construction support experience.

Responsibilities

  • Manage accounts and maintaining long-term client relationships

Overview

Our client, a well-established energy consulting firm, is seeking an Substation Engineering Manager for this senior-level leadership role responsible for overseeing day-to-day operations, including managing engineers and designers and interfacing with clients to resolve project and technical issues. In addition to leading office operations, this individual will drive business development efforts by marketing engineering services and cultivating new client relationships within investor-owned, municipal, and electric cooperative utility markets. This position reports to the Business Unit General Manager and has direct reports. This full-time position is located in Charlotte, NC. Candidates open to relocation are welcome to apply.

Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Civil, or Mechanical Engineering
  • MBA, PMP, or master's degree in Engineering Management preferred
  • Registered Professional Engineer (PE) required, and ability to become licensed in additional states as required
  • 10+ years of substation and relaying experience preferred
  • 5+ years in the engineering consulting business
  • 5+ years managing people
  • Competent in developing and maintaining a strong business network
  • Competent in researching engineering and design issues and evaluating solutions
  • Ability to learn new engineering topics to facility business and team growth
  • Process and improvement oriented
  • Strong communication skills in recommending engineering solutions and leading teams
  • Experience with engineering and design programs and software (AutoCAD, CymTCC, SEL Software, Omicron Testing
  • Universe, in addition to others)
  • Ability to travel up to 10% of the time
  • Construction support experience
  • Must be proficient in Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and other MS Office applications
  • Knowledge of project management software
  • Ability to provide technical review of project scopes, develop budget estimates and prepare proposals
  • Ability to prepare various specifications for bid such as equipment specification, labor specification and relay specifications
  • Must have a good understanding of the technological, market, and commercial trends driving the current utility industry transformation
  • Must have a general knowledge of all the engineering services that the Company offers and be able to effectively communicate the services to existing and potential clients
