Job summary

Westwood Professional Services is seeking a Substation Engineer-P&C to lead design for high voltage substations (4kV–230kV) and EHV projects. You will develop one-line diagrams, control schematics, and protection coordination while collaborating with multiple engineering disciplines.

Ideal candidates hold a Bachelor’s in Electrical Engineering with EIT, 4+ years HV substation experience, and proficiency in AutoCAD or Bentley MicroStation.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from an accredited program.
• EIT certification.
• Minimum of 4 years related work experience in high voltage substation design – P&C.
• Proficient in AutoCAD or Bentley MicroStation.
• Strong familiarity with the NEC and National Electrical Safety Code.
• Good knowledge of industry and technology trends specific to substations.

Responsibilities

• Performs all aspects of design for high voltage (4kV - 230kV) and EHV substation projects: diagrams, schematics, and control docs.
• Documentation for design calculations and construction documentation (sequence and RFP).
• Provide technical support, procurement, construction, and active coordination.
• Coordinate with P&C designers and other disciplines (transmission, distribution, telecom).
• Advise management on ROI and attend client technical review meetings.

Substation Engineer-P&C

Full-time

Responsibilities

• Performs all aspects of design for high voltage (4kV - 230kV) and EHV (above 230kV) substation projects to include:
• Development of one-line diagrams, three-line diagrams, potential and current schematics, control schematics, alarm schematics, communications schematics, wiring diagrams, protection and control specifications (preferred), I/O mapping (preferred), points mapping (preferred), relay settings (preferred).
• Documentation for design calculations.
• Construction documentation (sequence and RFP), technical support, procurement, construction, active coordination.
• Ability to work seamlessly with a P&C designer and coordinate efforts with other design disciplines such as transmission line engineers, distribution line engineers, telecom engineers.
• Keenly focused on production of high-quality work, continuous improvement, fast-paced multi-project environment.
• Assist in identifying key client interests and drivers; communicate them to the project team and develop approaches to accommodate concerns.
• Serve as a technical specialist for system protection and communication, providing consultation and guidance; remove impediments for the engineering team to achieve goals.
• Advise management on maximizing ROI for the team.
• Attend all client technical review meetings.

Skills and Qualifications

• Professional engineering license or ability to obtain one within 2 years of hire.
• Experience developing relay settings.
• Experience in protection device coordination.
• Proficiency in ASPEN One Liner, CYME Dist, or similar programs.
• Knowledge of construction practices and constructability.
• Experience with proposal writing and project estimating.
• Working knowledge of scheduling and project controls processes.
