Job summary

Kiewit Power Engineering seeks an entry-level Substation Engineer in The Woodlands, TX to support design and construction through engineering calculations, plan development and coordination with project teams. You will work on substation, transmission and distribution projects from 12kV to 500kV in an EPC context.

The role emphasizes safety, constructability and timely delivery, with FE/EIT eligibility and strong communication skills required to collaborate across disciplines and stakeholders.

Qualifications

  • B.S. in Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited university.
  • 0-2 years of engineering-related experience.
  • Knowledge of NEC, NESC, NEMA, IEEE and ANSI standards.
  • Eligibility to take FE exam or hold an EIT license.
  • Authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship.
  • Strong written and verbal communication; fluent in English.

Responsibilities

  • Assist project team in creating design documents and drawings such as one- and three-line diagrams and protection schematics.
  • Develop specifications for procurement, installation and testing of substation equipment.
  • Apply engineering software to ground grid design, equipment sizing, relay coordination and studies.
  • Coordinate activities with project lead, customers and other stakeholders.

Position Overview

As an entry-level Substation Engineer, you will be a part of a growing team that supports all aspects of the construction process by performing innovative design engineering through brainstorming conceptual designs, performing and/or reviewing electrical calculations, developing plans, scheduling tasks to meet client needs, as well as mitigating risk to keep our construction crews safe.


As part of this team of highly specialized design professionals, you will support a variety of substation, transmission and distribution projects ranging from 12kV to 500kV in both engineering detailed design and Engineer, Procure, Construct (EPC) projects for clients throughout the country.

Location

This position is based out of The Woodlands, TX office.


Responsibilities


  • Assist project team in creating all design documents and drawings, including one and three-line diagrams, protection and control schematics, communications diagrams, wiring diagrams, substation layout plan, section and detail drawings and application of mark‑ups for project built drawings.

  • Specification development for the procurement, installation and testing of substation equipment.

  • Apply engineering application software to complete engineering tasks such as ground grid design, equipment sizing, relay coordination, and electrical studies.

  • Communicate and coordinate project activities with project lead, customer representatives, and other stakeholders.


Qualifications


  • Bachelor of Science degree (B.S.) in Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited university

  • 3.0 cumulative GPA preferred

  • 0-2 years of experience performing engineering related duties

  • Knowledge of engineering standards including NEC, NESC, NEMA, IEEE and ANSI

  • Eligibility to take Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam or Engineer‑In‑Training (EIT) license

  • Must be legally authorized to work without requiring sponsorship for employment to begin or continue employment with our company

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; fluent in the English language
